About Me

I am constantly amazed by the fact that veterans and those currently serving in the military write me and thank me for having this page and supporting you. IT IS I WHO THANK YOU!!!! And that is why I created this page in the first place. The sad thing is that it is apparently such a rare thing for a civilian like myself to feel this way that some of you feel compelled to tell me; I really appreciate your taking the time to do so - I just wish it was not exceptional for someone to feel as I do. But please know it is my supreme privilege to honor you. Words could never express my gratitude to each and every one of you no matter your MOS or rating or branch in which you serve, you are all heroes to me. Rest assured I am not alone in this - there are many more like me._________________________________________________________ _I love all things military - I am obsessed with WWII and the Civil War and maybe just a little with the Navy (ya think?) but I honor all branches of service - you ROCK! There is a lot more to me than that but for this page that's all that's relevant. I am pretty much an open book so if you would like to know more, feel free to ask!________________________________________________________ ___"I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving - we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it - but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. .. .. ..

My Interests

You scored as Navy, Accerlerate your life with the U.S. Navy. Not only will you find the most advanced ships in the world in the Navy, but probably the most diverse way of life in all of the Armed Forces. You could visit foreign ports, work on naval fighters, or even spend your term undersea in one the nation's numerous submarines.

Which branch of the Military are you?
created with QuizFarm.comI am a history buff with particular interest in World War II and the US Civil War. I am also interested in living history events and re-enactments. And I love playing Call of Dutys (4 is hard as hell!) I endeavor to learn about our modern military also (though I may favor the Navy just a tad.) I enjoy Georgia Bulldog Football, hiking, biking, reading, and music. I am studying German but have quite a way to go before I can translate anything for you.

Music:

Lots of stuff - all kinds. Anchors Aweigh, (just kidding), indie/alt stuff, Sirius Satellite radio rocks - check it out, eels, Aqualung, New Pornographers, Interpol, Kings of Leon, Steven Malkmus, Pavement, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, Dresden Dolls, My Morning Jacket, Cake, Flaming Lips, Snow Patrol, Pixies, Bill Callahan,(Smog), Eric Bachmann, Archers of Loaf, Steve Earle, Robyn Hitchcock, Echo and the Bunnymen, Lucinda Williams, Billy Idol and Generation X (just for old times sake), The Ramones, Marvin Gaye, Al Greene, Mozart, Wagner, Johnny Cash, Jazz of the Ella Fitzgerald and Count Basie variety as well as the Charles Mingus type; old REM (I went to college in Athens, GA, it's a requirement.) new wave and punk from early 80s, a very teeny bit of hip-hop - but not much, classic rock - the standards that I need not even list...more later as I think of 'em

Movies:

To Kill a Mockingbird, The Sound of Music, Hot Fuzz. All WWII era war movies including Das Boot, U-571, Run Silent, Run Deep, The Caine Mutiny, In Harm's Way, Stalingrad, Rotation, Enemy at the Gates, Enemy Below, A Bridge Too Far, The Dirty Dozen, The Grand Illusion. Movies involving the military, esp. Navy and most esp. submarines (even cheesy ones): Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Cinderella Liberty, You're in the Navy Now, The Last Detail, The Sand Pebbles, Ensign Pulver, Let's Go Navy!, A Few Good Men, etc etc. Civil War movies: Glory, Gettysburg, Andersonville, Gods and Generals, etc etc...

Television:

Future Weapons with Mac!! Weaponology and the rest of the shows on Military Channel, The History Channel, Oz (the HBO one not the Dorothy and tin man one), Reno 911!, House, Strangers with Candy, The John Stewart Show, The Colbert Report, Extras (Ricky Gervais is a genius), old Brit comedies: 'Allo, 'Allo!, Vicar of Dibley, The Office (Brit one.)

Books:

I am currently reading Andy Rooney's MY WAR (yes, THAT Andy Rooney) and FIGHTING SHIPS OF WWII. Favs are: The Winds of War, War and Remembrance, Shaaras' Civil War Trilogy: Gods and Generals, The Killer Angels, The Last Full Measure, Andersonville, Shelby Foote's Civil War: a Narrative, 3 Volumes, WWII related biographies - Allies and Axis, most anything by Carl Hiaasen, Sue Grafton, Anne Tyler and some John Irvin but some of it gets a little strange.

Heroes:

I am proud to honor those who have fought for our liberty and those currently serving in our Armed Forces so we may remain free from oppression today. Through this forum (MySpace) I have been blessed to get acquainted with a few of those brave men and women. I had no idea what a rewarding experience this would prove to be. I can never adequately express my gratitude to you. One word that sums it all up beautifully is VALOR: BOLDNESS OR DETERMINATION IN FACING GREAT DANGER, ESP. IN BATTLE; HEROIC COURAGE; BRAVERY.For all you have endured and will endure - God Bless You.
