MAJOR STONER

Rockin' for All America

About Me

This Rock & Roll army we call MAJOR STONER was formed in June of 2001 by Jeff Jones (Drums), Phil Rossi (Guitar) & original Vocalist Jerry Woodworth (Bass & Vocals). Jeff came up with the idea for the name from the TV show M.A.S.H. It comes from the 2nd season episode "For the Good of the Outfit". Major "Ralph" Stoner comes to the 4077 to investigate an accidental bombing of a local village and Hawkeye & Trapper can't leave it alone.
The band, MAJOR STONER made their debut the first weekend in August of 2001 at "GRANTFEST" in upstate New York in front of a few hundred hardcore partiers. MAJOR STONER plays various gigs across NY & PA throughout the summer, fall & early winter. In December of 2001 MAJOR STONER suffered a setback when original Bass Player Jerry Woodworth left the band due to personal issues. At this time MAJOR STONER was lucky to have Jason Mattoon (Bass & Vocals) and Chris Hughes (Guitar and Vocals) join the band. They work up some new tunes and MAJOR STONER marches on.
In September of 2002 founding member Jeff Jones stated that he's had enough of the classic rock bullshit and leaves MAJOR STONER. Phil, Jason & Chris continue on as RAW DEAL with a different drummer. Raw Deal performs a few gigs and then fades out. In November 2002 Jeff joins DOGBONE, a hard rocking blues power trio based out of Elmira, NY. Jeff performs in Dogbone just shy of one year before leaving due to creative differences with DOGBONE leader Terrence "T-Bone" Welch.
April 2003 Jeff starts talking will Phil & Jerry on the reformation of the original MAJOR STONER line-up. After a few short Jams Jeff & Phil decide that Jerry isn't the man for the job anymore. Jerry moves on, and eventually moves back to Detroit, MI.
In May of 2004 Jeff, Phil & Jason decide to jam and see if MAJOR STONER could be put back together. After 3 jams they decide that they have something special and decide that they will continue on. On July 2nd 2004 Jeff has a head on collision and gets beat up pretty bad. It will be a month & 1/2 before Jeff can play the drums again. At this time Jason decides that due to his busy work schedules, he won't be able to continue, so a new search begins.
Jeff puts the word out and in December 2004 Bass Player Chris Rugar agrees to join MAJOR STONER. Jeff & Chris previously worked together in the JUSTIN SANE band. In January of 2005 Lead Vocalist / Guitarist Ed Daugherty jams with Jeff, Phil & Chris and agrees to join MAJOR STONER. After jamming for a couple months, Phil decides to leave the band once again. At this time Long Island native Anthony Ferrara is brought in for Lead Vocals. After jamming again for a couple of months, Jeff & Anthony decide that Chris & Ed are a total waste of their time and they put the band on hold.
