The (original) Infinite Regress was created when Tumors McMillan and Saint Alexander met at a road side diner near route 66 in 1987. At that point IR was just a collage of sound bits recorded from various sources like Saint's 68 chevy and Tumors' screen door. But when the IR boys met with producer John Holland in Los Angeles in the early 1990s, they decided to add traditional instruments to their repetoir. After becoming familiar with the versatility of these intruments they decided to use computers and recorded their 1st single, "chinese finger trap". It did minimally well in the US and Europe but much better in Japan.Limited amounts of fame brought the IR boys enough capital to invest in a new recording extravaganza. Thier labors yielded one of their best songs to date "blow up", which challenged conventional conceptions of pop music and pop audiences. It blurred the lines between production value and realism in a way that no artist has been able to achieve since. Unfortunatly for them, rap rock was leading the charts at the time and there was no room for artistic expression within the music community. Once again their efforts were spoiled and they had to settle as opening acts for some of the more popular backwards red hat wearing groups of the time. After a bout with methadone Tumors and Saint added long time listener Zingger to the line up to perform on select tracks. Zingg was able to turn the lives around of these two broken men by adding a little musical complexity, and soon they started recording again. They released another single "Whisper", based on a concierto composed by the legendary Sean Gelanofsky of Russia. This track was able to generate buzz in far off lands such as Finland and Slovakia. It was the latest single that has recieved the most buzz though. Adding bassist cambodia to the line up and teaming up with super producer Brock Samouth, they recorded "Godzilla vs La Jolla", a thought provoking piece on the readiness of todays social environment to deal with big, godzilla sized if you will, problems. This was also the begining of their video age.IR last made headlines during the Implisionville festival in San Diego California this past summer. Due to medical problems IR is not able to perform live frequently or for long periods of time but when they do it is not something to be missed. An IR performance is more like a theatrical event than a concert and often the aftermath is immense. Saints on stage antics ranged from chocolate and mayonaise to showering broken glass from the ceiling light fixtures. This performance included a light show and full body suits . Saint's incoherent ramblings are anything short of inspiring and the thick pounding of Tumor's drums created a back bone for the radical ideas to ride on to the audience. It wasnt until they covered a Fast Forward song that things got out of hand and Saint started dropping audience members to the ground with just a touch of his hand while Tumors chanted the politically incorect words to the song. Do to several injurys reported all photos were subsequently confiscated by the venue and have not yet been released to the band. But all those who were there will remember that night for the rest of their lives.
