About Me

Sam Bryant started playing drums at the age of 11 and turned professional by the age of 17. His influences in drummers range from Art Blakely, Jeff Pocarro, Steve Gadd, Dennis Chambers, and Harvey Mason just to name a few. Before anyone knew who Sam Bryant was on the national circuit, he had the oppurtunity to record with soul diva Millie Jackson on her Younger Man - Older Woman CD, back in the late 80's. Sam also got a chance to show Kenny Neal and his brothers what he had to offer one night at the Grand Emporium in Kansas City when his drummer got snowed in, in Atlanta GA. Sam was out with another young guitar player at the time on the same tour with Kenny Neal, and Tinsley Ellis. To make a long story short, Sam played and recorded with Kenny Wayne Shepherd for a better part of six years, and toured with some of the most famous bands and artist in America while playing with Kenny during those years. He has also been bless to earn a gold and platinum record during this time, along with a grammy nod also. During his stay in the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, he also did a variety of television shows also. Sam's most current gig is based out of his home town in Wilmington NC, and Cary, N.C . It is fronted by one of the hardest working entertaining performers in the regional area between Virginia and the state of Florida. For those of you who have never gotten a chance to see Sam do his thing please take a look at the video's provided on this page for your entertainment. Band Members: I am a national and regional freelance artist for hire. My forte is soul, blues, country, fusion jazz, and rock. I am playing with some great players from Wilmington and Cary NC right now whose careers are just as rich and bless as mine.So with this being said, you should have some idea, of what I do for regional bands and National Artist, who hire me to bring my style of playing to accompany what they need and desire in their music. When it's all said and done, all it's really about is being in the "Da Pocket".
Influences: My influences range from a wide variety of drummers and great artist. I’m into everything that has a serious pocket. From E.W.F, T.O.P, Chicago, Bruce Hornsby, Yellow Jackets, Micheal Franks, A.R.U, Niacin, Journey, Toto, Van Halen, almost all of Motowns catalog, James Brown, Steely Dan, Sly and the Family Stone, Parliament/Funkadelic, Big and Rich, Brad Paisley, and countless others....... Drummers are a whole other world for me! I’m into the cats that took grooving to another level.. Dennis Chambers, Steve Gadd, Billy Cobham, Art Blakely, Jeff Pocarro, Carter Beauford, Sonny Emory, Clyde Stubblefield, Jabo Starks, Apt Q258, and many others.. These guys are who i’m constantly listening to and they are true innovator’s to me as to how they approach the kit and utilize their talents to make great grooves in the music they play.
