While they think that their life is in order, they have no concept of eternity. Peace is a stranger in their courtst. Not the world's peace, but the peace of God. Once one has accepted Jesus Christ into his or her heart, that peace enters and fills up that empty hole. As a doughnut is lacking of its center, so are we lacking spirituality of God. Jesus Christ died on a cross, was burried, rose again, ascended into heaven, and now sits at the right hand of God making intercession for those that look not to their own efforts of righteousness, but to His. The first lesson Jesus taught was repentance. Once we repent (that is, to completely turn from sin), we can replace that emptiness with joy. We do this by accepting Christ's sacfrice. God dwells in humans, Christians that is. He gives them a peace unspeakable and a joy unexpressable. This is what each of us should be filling our wretched gaps with, Jesus Christ and the peace He has to offer.
