Dive for dreams, live by love

About Me

Travelling is my passion, cultivating new grounds and learning new culture. Completing my Master's in a month, I'm not too sure what I would like to make out of my life. Freelancing for travel and wildlife magazines would have been ideal, an option of which my parents would have been none to please. Being in Europe for almost 9 years, I've also gained interest in photography which I have religiously pursued in all my free time, capturing everything and everything from the magnificent islands of Croatia's Dalmatian Coast to the door knobs of a palatial palace up high in the mountains of Lisbon. Tennis and squash are my favourite sport and I have been told i'm pretty awesome at Poker..haha. Other than that, I love nothing more than just eating and eating and eating, hence the weight gain in the past month!

My Interests

Photography and travelling, there is nothing better in life than these two AMAZING things. I'm totally obsessed with the two to the point whereI'd take days off college to venture into an Italian village or hiking through the Slovenian Jura. Tennis and scuba diving comes close, although I have to admit I've yet to achieve an 'open water' cert for the latter. Other than that, it has to chilling with friends in London, especially fine dining and not forgetting nasi ayam at Nahar's. Watching foreign films are good too, especially those by Almodovar-'Hable con elle' and I must say Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam was pretty good. Right...Thats aboutr it. Its getting pretty borrrinnng......

I'd like to meet:

Anyone with an interest in photography, travelling, poker and of course, the great heroes of the past.

Music:

I have to admit that I used to HATE Arab Music but after my trip to Lebanon and Egypt, I must say I'm starting to appreciate the rythm and beats. For those newcomers in the Arabian genre, I recommend Natascha Atlas, Amr Diab and Khaled. After seeing them live in concerts, I must say Cesaria Evora and the Buena Vista Social Club are fantastic. I'm also highly influenced by my siblings' choice of musics, Shasha have made me a huge 60/70's fan and Ned has introduced me to the latest juice from blues, soul to r n b. My all time favourite soundtrack has got to be Frida and I love anything by Joss Stone, Frank Sinatra, Caetano Veloso, Van Morisson, Lila Downs and Four Tops--'Sugar pie, honey bunch...'

Movies:

Alamak, so banyak one! I can go on forever macam ni. But I love anything by Pedro Almodovar, Martin Scorcesee( did I get that right?) and independent films. Mmmm..., to name but afew...Y Tu Mama Tambien, Salo (sadistic gila), ok, too many la...

Television:

Tennis, Globetrekker, Nip/Tuck, Discovery Channel, National Geographic. My course requires me to analyse globalisation and its discontents but I have to admit, I am so not against the transnationalist capitalist class, I love tv and I will continue to watch, eventhough I have been writing a damn research essay against these tools of destruction. To the constructivist out there, stop being a hypocrite, I know you love the tv as much as the realsit here.

Books:

Another problem...too many!! Well I guess mostly all the Latin American writers-Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Mario Varga Llosa- I thank them for helping me to understand their culture from machismo to marianismo, without them, my final thesis would have been a total mess. Pablo Neruda's influential "Canto General" have actually got me interested into poetry and since, I've been indulging more and more in them. Other than that, Tony Parson is funny and Jhumpa Lahiri is pretty entertainig too- especially her short stories collection in the 'Interpreter of Maladies'.Also love travel magazines, photography magazines, car magazines and yes, believe it or not, even magazines on airplanes... sad la wei!

Heroes:

Paps, Gandhi, Homer, Kafka, Machiavelli and Anwar Sadat

I want London

My god, hell I'm missing London. Wine room is not the same like those Chelsea bars, Third Floor is not as nice as Hakassan and  Suria is not exactly Selfridges. I want to go home. Trying to find ...
