About Me

I am the program director for Elon University's radio station, WSOE 89.3 the Only Alternative. I also have a radio show that focuses on bringing in bands for interviews and in-studio performances. We try to focus heavily on local bands in order to spread the word. If you are a band from the RDU, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Elon/Burlington Winston-Salem or hell... anywhere, feel free to contact me [send me a myspace message or email me at rsweeney2(at)elon(dot)edu]. We'd love to have you on the show!!!Also, I'm trying to bring a big local music focus into our station's rotation. If you're a band from NC, I'd love to get your album playing on our station. You can send any cds to:WSOE 89.3 (Attn Ryan Sweeney) Campus Box 6000 Elon University Elon, NC 27244

My Interests

Music, Photography, Theatre, Good Movies (or films however you prefer to call them), Friends, and a good book here and there.

I'd like to meet:

Steven Wilson (met), Jeff Tweedy, Mark Lanegan, Woody Allen, Frank Zappa (can't meet) and Dweezil Zappa (met), people involved in any part of the music industry, bands and people who are true to the aspect of art in music. Local bands!

Music:

I like too much to list, but I do NOT like everything. However, I like to be open minded to new genres and sounds. I hate anything that is fake, I respect anything that is true to art, and I love anything that sounds good to me. Local is the best :)I'm listening to:

Movies:

Too many to keep up with. I try to stick with the classics (old school & modern) as well as awesome zombie movies and corny sci-fi original type hilarious "horror" movies.R.I.P. Paul Newman - You will always be one of the greats.

Television:

Lost, Burn Notice, Heroes, Californication, Dexter, Pushing Daisies, Flight of the Conchords. And a bunch of shows no longer on air: Arrested Development, Firefly, Get Smart, Dead like Me, Adventures of Brisco County Jr, Jack of All Trades, X-Files and The Lone Gunman

Books:

Michael Crichton books and stuff like it. Chuck Klosterman (Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs, Killing Yourself To Live, etc). Lunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis. If Chins Could Kill and How to Make Love the Bruce Campbell Way, Slaughter-House 5, Boomsday and a good play here and there. Magazine wise: Paste, mojo, mad, and pop photo.

Heroes:

Those who challenge the norm, not in a rebellion sense but in a thinking outside the box sense. Also people who want to be individuals not because it's a social movement (that's just stupid because then they are conforming with non conformists) but because they want to pursue a meaningful life and attempt to make waves in this world. And Frank.
