About Me

I'm a Cancer, and I wear my heart on my sleeve. I love to laugh and have a fantastic time, but MUST have my alone time too to just chill. I'm extroverted, and am a bit of a social butterfly, although I definitely thrive more in a city environment then where I'm living at the moment. I can't wait to move back to a city. I lived in Chicago for ten years, and felt it was time to move on, and for a loooong while this suburban thing just wasn't cuttin' it.I'm residing in Virginia for a time, working as a manager of a bookstore, saving up money for a move down south for a move to Nashville.I originally was going to move there in this upcoming summer, but I've changed my mind. For the first time in many years, I'm happy, and I've met so so so so many great friends down here, especially Claire, Maddie, Eric, Chris B , Kate, Janine, Viki and my brutha Federico. You people changed my life. and now I don't want to leave! and it would be STUPID to!I've already got three bands coming together: Little and Slow, the electronica/pop band with Claire, The Slope, my metal band with Eric and Daniel ( i didn't tell them I've name us yet, and they may not like it, but it's the perfect definitive name for our band)and the Andy Pratt band which will be playing Galaxy Hut definitely and hopefully the 9:30 club or the Black Cat in May or June.I planned on moving to Nashville to be a country singer, and I could be and I think I'd be very successful at it, I have connections there with some very successful peeps, producers, bands, etc. but something tells me not to do that. My dad was a country singer. He wasn't a great one, and he never found success but it's what he always wanted to be.am I subconsiously singing country music to please my father? or do I truly love it? I think both things are true in a sense.I mean, I LOVE country music, but metal and soul and punk and pop.....means so much more to me. I had some great oppurtunities in the country music field in Chicago, and I walked away from them. That must mean something. Means my heart ain't in it.I'm going to stay here, and enjoy the ride.It is NOT the time to leave town. I am NOT copping out either. I'm sorry if my decision disappoints anyone, but it's my life, after all. I'm just doing what I really want. Going to Nashville at this point, would be copping out. Because it would be to please other people and not myself.and that's never good.

My Interests

History is a passion, as well as comparitive religions, philosophy, film criticism, fiction, etc. Other things I really dig are: Cities (big or small), hot, spicy ethnic food (Indian, Ethiopian, Korean), travelling (been to Europe a number of times), cafe and bar culture, seeing local bands, Beer (especially Belgian) Wine (Shiraz is my fave) playing basketball, chilling in the woods, or on the water......(Edit)

I'd like to meet:

New Friends, E-Buddies, Cool Girls, and people to chat with about all kinds of things

Television:

Don't watch TV because I don't have cable or reception, although sometimes I put on Conan O Brien (and I look his stuff up on NBC.com online every night) which was a hilarious show since day one. But when I do watch TV ( (over someone else's house), it's World war 2 documentaries on the History Channel, Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Simpsons.Back when I was a TV junkie in the 80's I enjoyed such quality programs as Street Hawk, BJ and the Bear, Manimal, After-M.A.S.H., and Leonrado Di Caprio's work on the final season of Growing Pains.Oh, and i fucking LOVE Sanford and son!!!!! I also rent DVD sets of old shows. The Ben Stiller Show is brilliant, and stands the test of time. Also, any of the Seinfeld box sets are worth the money.

Books:

The best book I've read in many a year was Norman Mailer's sprawling, mind-bending masterpiece "The Executioner's song". Cormac McCarthy's magnificent novel of the post apocalpyse, "The Road", is the best new book I've read and surely the best I've read of the books released 2006.It is an EVENT, like anytime this great, great writer puts out a new book, but this may be his best (and it is measured aaginst many other great works by this master), and I was so, so happy to see such a work of fine literature make it's way into the top ten bestsellers upon it's release. He just may be the finest writer alive, and I'd put him up there with William Faulkner, Ken Kesey, Joseph Conrad, and a small handful of others. I read a lot of books on music: some faves being "Please Kill Me" by Legs McNeil, and the entire works of Peter Guralnick, ESPECIALLY, "Sweet Soul Music","Feel Like Going Home" and his Elvis Books. I love books on film too, such as "Easy Riders and raging Bulls" and "Down and Dirty Pictures". Some of my favorite writers are the Russians: Tolstoy, Turgenev, Chekov, Nabokov and Dostoevsky. I also love Jerzy Kosinski,Iris Murdoch, William Faulkner,Michael Chabon, Murakami is a new fave, I fucking LOVE Joyce Carol Oates,Cormac McCarthy, Martin Amis is cool, Joe Meno's got it, Franz Kafka, Herman Hesse, Mark Twain, anything by Jim Thompson, Charles Dickens, Jose Saramago, John Steinbeck,Joseph Conrad, Chuck Klosterman, John Le Carre,John D Mcdonald (especially the Travis McGee books), Elmore Leonard, Robert Heinlein,Ross Macdonald, Dashiell hammet, Flaubert, Isaac Asimov, E.L. Doctorow, Steinbeck, and my fave poets are Pablo Neruda, Plath, Bukowski, Shakespeare, Sexton, and evreyone's favorite mystic of the 12th century, Rumi. Hafiz is pretty amazing too. and oh my God, Kahlil Gibran is an AMAZING poet.Right nwo I'm reading a lot of books on crystals, and prophecy.
