About Me
Aderbat presents its new EP Man Overboard on June 3rd, 2008 through its own budding label Mountebank Records. Recorded three years after their highly acclaimed indie debut record Rabbits and Rocks and yet to be released album We Belong to the Sea which was engineered, mixed, and produced by Andrew Weiss (Ween, Akron/Family, Rollins Band) at his home studio ‘Zion House O Flesh.’
“We were originally going to call the EP Waiting,†says Aderbat frontman Matt Taylor. “Because we thought we would quickly record something ourselves while we patiently awaited our mixes for We Belong to the Sea from Andrew...but then the song Man Overboard happened, and it fit too well in the blurry sea theme of that time.â€
Ken Micallef writes, “You can almost hear the band thinking, as if playing in a circle around a cozy campfire. ‘Hard Wired’ sets the template: a Spartan, Philip Glass styled brass arrangement in a lonely urban tale about ‘letting your jaws go’ and ‘whiplash.’ Then ‘Talk About Her’ rainy day acoustic music for demented souls. And ‘Man Overboard’-- with mad, Lennon-meets-Phil Spector vocals, sweeping strings like Jeff Lynne gone wild, and guitars that scratch at your heels like fire ants. The Man Overboard EP is Aderbat at 20,000 leagues under the sea.â€
The six new songs on Man Overboard were recorded at the bands Pennsylvania studio, Five Tails. It was produced by Matt Taylor and engineered/mixed by Todd Schied and Aderbat. The record features singer, guitarist, and principle songwriter Matt Taylor; founding member, portrait painter, and bassist Brad Kunkle; drummer and percussionist Todd Schied; from Bach to Cobain guitarist Chris Covatta (My Head Your Head); multi-instrumentalist Chris Blasucci; and tenor saxophonist Bryan Rogers (Shot by Shot, My Head Your Head).
The band is currently planning a summer tour and festival dates in support of the Man Overboard EP and future album release of We Belong to the Sea. Simultaneously, Taylor and Schied, will also be playing dates at the more intimate venues along with new member Craig Hendrix (Auctioneer, Bon Savants), highlighting the dreamily, delirious themes of the Aderbat world.
"Exquisitely simple yet strikingly complex – this is the world that aderbat thrives in. It’s a gray world, in which the music becomes that much sweeter when the clouds give way to the light. Too much metaphor? Yeah, I thought so too, but that’s how aderbat is structured. Take one part Sondre Lerche, one part Radiohead, one part glistening pop, the fundamental elements of original rock ‘n’ roll and combine those with dirty percussion, dry, on-the-verge-of-breaking vocals, and you’ve got a clue what aderbat sounds like."

"...polished and distinct..."

Philadelphia Weekly
"...a study in contrasts -- shadow and light, bloom and decay, feelings of love and desire coupled with vague sensations of dread. aderbat doesn't hit you over the head. The songs are subtle and intricate, rather than overwhelming. The music creeps into your consciousness in a way that grows stronger with repeated listening."

Morning Call
"aderbat is essentially giving us a romanticized vision of the world, vision tempered through the cusp of adult awakening - a classically tinged romanticism. There is a sense of America here, you know, the one you really want to know about, strong and intelligent, complex and diffused. Like all good art, aderbat's is tinged with the stain of reality and this is why they sound like they do: smart and beautiful."

The Stiv
"As complex and engaging as the band’s studio efforts are, it is nothing compared to aderbat’s live performance."
