It’s not emo -- it’s folk-rock

About Me

So yeah, I'm Derek Keller. I consider myself indie/folk rock -- not emo. People use the term emo way to loosely in my opinion. If you want emo, listen to Husker Du, Rites Of Spring, The Promise Ring, or Sunny Day Real Estate. My songs are about: drug dependency, being afraid of taking next steps in your life, being judged, relationships with family and girlfriends, depression & anxiety, and more. I've been playing music since I was 12, but didn't start songwriting until I was 14 or 15. At one time I was very excited about music and did recordings as often as I could but then due to letting marijuana run my life and making a lot of bad decisions I don't enjoy music as much as I used to. Nowadays I try to write whenever I can. I now write as a way of getting feelings out, whereas in the past, I wrote more for fun and with the hopes of impressing people. I hope to one day get more serious with my writing and hopefully performing, as I do enjoy playing in front of people, but until then, enjoy some of my demos I recorded at home.
