Nel 1947 ha inizio l'esperienza di Giancarlo Stanzani come garzone presso il negozio di Enrico Piretti, noto liutaio bolognese dell'epoca. Questa collaborazione dura fino all'anno 1960 quando Giancarlo, insieme ad un altro allievo di Piretti, decide di aprire un nuovo laboratorio nel centro di Bologna. Qui, dalle sue abili mani, nascono i primi strumenti firmati STANTOM, destinati ad essere conosciuti ed apprezzati dai migliori musicisti dell' area emiliana, italiana ed internazionale. Nel 1984 il laboratorio si trasferisce in via Orfeo e il lavoro di Giancarlo si arricchisce della collaborazione del figlio Luca. Fantasia e qualità unite alla tradizione dei grandi liutai bolognesi diventano nel corso degl'anni la filosofia di lavoro della Liuteria Stanzani, tanto da richiederne la cosulenza nella realizzazione di un film sulla vita di Antonio Stradivari (Stradivari-1989). L'attenzione e la cura dei materiali portano Luca e Giancarlo anche oltre frontiera per procurarsi legni pregiati con cui dar voce alle migliori sonorità . Gli alberi selezionati per gli strumenti Stanzani vengono scelti in giovane età e controllati anno per anno nella crescita. In questo modo è possibile individuare ed escludere possibili fallature del legno. Luca e Giancarlo curano personalmente il taglio dell'albero, facendo attenzione a non danneggiare quelle caratteristiche del legno che rendono possibile preservare la migliore delle venature.
Giancarlo Stanzani started his career in 1947. He was an assistant in Enrico Pieretti's shop, a famous Liutaio in Bologna at the time. He continued in the shop until 1960, when he opened his own "Liuteria" in the heart of Bologna, along with another assistant of Pieretti. This is the place where the first "STANTOM" instruments were born, and were destined to be known by the best musicians in both Italy and abroad. In 1984 the Liuteria moved to via Orfeo, and Giancarlo's work is now enriched by his son, Luca. Imagination and skill kept alive the traditions of the great artisans of the past, and became the philosophy that led to the work of the Liuteria Stanzani, including an opportunity to help during the shooting of the movie Stradivari, in 1989. Great care and attention to detail of the materials guide Giancarlo and Luca even abroad to choose and buy the best wood available, to give the instruments always the best sound. The trees destined to Stanzani instruments are selected very young, and checked year by year. This is how the Liuteria can recognize and exclude any inadapted tree. Luca and Giancarlo follow personally the cut of the tree, carig about not damaging those tree characteristics that allow to preserve the best shape and wood veins.
