Rockets and Cars were an indie/ rock n roll band built by ex members of NYC band Tabloid Nation ( written up in RnR as a band to watch along with Coldplay in 2001) TJ Rosenthal, Gary Calzaretta, and Jeremy Stephens of Phildelphia power trio Cincotta. The group signed a deal in 2003 with fledgling label Motor Room records and recorded a full length LP with Joe Mattis. "The Protest" was set for release as a single to radio in spring of 2004 as was support on the nationwide Reverend Horton Heat tour. Both never materialized as the label was found to be lacking the funds to support either a band on the road and on the radio. Angry and surprised, the group left the label, and quickly distanced itself from Motor Room by recording an EP with former Debbie Harry guitarist Pete Min. In summer of 2004, Dan Mans left the group and Dom Rocket took over on bass, just weeks before the groups initial UK tour. That fall, they returned to prepare for their second LP with the hopes that things would turn out better the second time around. Enlisting the production help of Paul Mahajan ( Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio) in the summer of 2005, the LP done at Headgear studios in Williamsburg, featured re recorded versions of the "The Protest" and "Was That You Laughing.". Upon completion however, opinions differed amongst the band members as to what the future direction of the band should be. Lacking management, and a label, arguments became more commonplace as frustration grew. Sadly, RNC broke up without ever fullfilling its potential in December of 2005.
