About Me
Well, I was born and raised in North Philly. At the time that I was growing up, there where a lot of bands that played at block parties. My cousin had a band named Source Of Power that used to practice in his basement and I was always there at the rehearsals. I was too young to go to their live gigs except for the block parties, so I was at EVERY rehearsal. The bass player's name was Charlie and I used to ask him all of the time to teach me a song. Finally he gave in and taught me how to play "Slide" by Slave. Then it was off to the races.I went to a private school "Girard College" with was mixed with Black and White kids. This is where I was turned on to rock. I first heard Led Zepplin's (Fool in the Rain) and it was slamming!!! That rock shuffle beat! WOW!!! Then it was Kiss and I went at and got all of their records. Now I was the only Black kid in my school who dug rock.I joined the Marine Corps after school and I started to meet many musicians from all over. I met this one guy named Woody, a Black guy who was also into rock. He turned me on to Rush, Yes, Van Halen, etc. We would learn these songs and then go out to a bar where a band was playing and ask them if we could play a song or two. They thought that we were joking, two Black kids want to sit in with a rock band. Well, they let us play everybody's jaw fell to the floor. They couldn't believe it!! We never did form a band because we liked what we were doing, going from bar to bar and sitting in.Next was Japan. This is where I did most of my playing. I spent 12 years living in Tokyo and played all types of gigs. I worked at Tokyo Disneyland in their stage band, recorded some demos with a British rock band and did a video with a Japanese female pop star named "Sakura" for MTV Japan.Back in Philly I joined a local cover band for a few months and I played in some of the "A" rooms around town and at the Jersey shore. The last band that I was in was Goldfish Don't Bounce, a party/dance horn band. And now, here I am with a kick-ass band called DejaGroove!!!!
