Kayode Kuti and The Blacknotes

"NEWEST AFRICAN GROOVE"

About Me

Michael Olukayode Kuti was born in the early 1980's in the family of the Kuti's, LAGOS NIGERIA. His musical career started at the early age of 15, when he first featured with his father. Since the first instant, Kayode has known how to develop an incredible and astonishing groove of the ancestrals.

He was the Bassplayer of Fela's Egypt 80 Band, led by Seun Kuti. For the past 4 years, he featured with the band in so many concerts such as Sfinks Festival, Eurokeens Festival, Nice Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, World Cafe Live Philadelphia, Millenium Park Chicago, Sound Of Brazil New York, Harbour Front Toronto, J.V.C Jazz Festival Paris, Oslo World Music Festival, Womex World Music Expo 2007, etc...
He recorded the very first album "MANY THINGS" and last played with the band during the last Europe tour in November 2007.
After the tour he was invited for a recording project in Madrid (Spain).
Then he decided to leave Egypt 80 to focus on his own projects and continue his musical career with his band The Blacknotes in Europe.

Alternately, Kayode Kuti is a bassplayer, a songwriter, an arranger, a singer and producer.
