Trouble on two legs

About Me

I'm the guy that draws Daredevil. I like chai. I like baseball. I like music. I like some comics, but not all. I like to draw. I'm kinda small. I have hair under my lip - some people call it a "soul patch", but I hate that name.

Lately I've been getting a lot of requests to do pinup pieces and commissions. Please be aware that I am under an exclusive contract with Marvel Comics, which doesn't allow me to do work for other companies or comics. And all personal commission requests are handled through my art dealer's website. Please contact him, and we'll do our best to set something up.

I have my own forum!

And you can also check out a gallery of my artwork, as well as make commission requests, here at my art dealer's website - Splashpage Art.

Please visit some of the great artists, writers, and bands that are on my friends list!

My Interests

Music of any kind, both playing it and listening to it; baseball of any kind, both playing it and spectating it; art, only the graphic and illustration kind, not the fartsy kind; my son Calvin (named after the comic strip, not the president or the baseball player).

I'd like to meet:

Oh, and I definitely have to meet THIS guy:

Favorites (in no particular order): The Incredibles; The Big Lebowski; The Third Man; Sudden Fear; Shaolin Soccer; Star Wars (it's NOT called "A New Hope"!); A Fistful of Dollars. And too many others to mention....

Television:

Yeah, I know I'm a big geek for loving Avatar, but have you seen it???!!!!

Homicide: Life on the Street. Buffy. Baseball. I am ashamed to say that I can quote extensively from old Simpsons and Seinfeld episodes. Black Adder - the best insults anywhere. Oh, and Mary Tyler Moore. I'm in love with her. I can't help it.

Books:

I'll read just about anything. I like anything that's funny, and I love crime fiction. Also some true crime, but it makes me feel guilty that I'm being entertained by someone else's pain.

Some favorites are David Sedaris; "Confederacy of Dunces"; Ray Bradbury; Dashiell Hammett; Raymond Chandler; Ross Macdonald; Elmore Leonard.

Heroes:

Muhammed Ali, Jackie Robinson, Bill Wilson, and anyone else who was willing to risk their own status quo for the benefit of a higher good.

My Blog

Devourer of Worlds

Yeah, I know. It's been a LONG time, and I still haven't posted the rest of that step-by-step demo.  I'm a lousy MySpace friend, I'll admit it.  But Daredevil has been kic...

I Haven't Forgotten

Sorry for the delay in getting the rest of the "shop talk" blog done.  Daredevil 98 fell behind schedule quickly, and I've spent the last few weeks scrambling to get it done.  I ended up ink...

SHOP TALK part 1

I get asked a lot of questions by other artists, and I in turn ask a lot of questions of artists I like, about the process of creating a page. It's a huge weird mystery that I am always trying to cra...

Commissions

I've got some free time this week, so I'm catching up on some long-overdue commissions.  These are a couple I did this morning. And, to answer the questions:  These are both done on cheap-as...

Old Inks

This morning I had to pull out an old original page from Gotham Central that someone wants to purchase. And I was pleasantly surprised. This is the last full issue of Central that I inked myself, so...

Noel Sickles

I don't collect much in the way of original art.  I have a few artists from whom I'd like to have one original each, but that's more than enough for me.  Noel Sickles has always been on the ...

It's been a while....

Yeah, I know.  I haven't posted anything in a bit.  Been crazy busy blazing through the end of #95 and the first half of #96, a bunch of commissions, and I somehow found time to get good and...

I'm a tease

So, I've spent the last few days cranking out the rest of the action scene that I started last week. Like I said, these are always the toughest for me, but once I got the storytelling down it went pr...

The Finished Pencils

So, finally, here are the finished pages that go with those layouts from a couple days ago. Of course, as soon as I finished them, I thought of a couple things I wished I'd done differently. Hmmmm......
