About Me

Suanlumkids is a project which was initiated in early 2007. After several trips to Latin-America and Asia, Dutch student Eva Hendriks dreamed of setting up a creative project to help the less fortunate children. She found her dream soon after she arrived in Thailand the first time. Soon she met more people who had the same kind of dream and a few months later, the dream came true!
The project is based at the Suanlumpinee school in Bangkok. Together with the Thai teachers from the Suanlumpinee school, and enthousiastic volunteers from all over the world, we have a great team. We embrace a lot of different knowledge and experience that can be used in the project. Along with the permanent staff, we have volunteers who combine their studies or work with volunteering at Suanlumkids.
One thing we have in common is that we believe that small efforts can make big differences. By teaching English in a positive and creative way we give these children a chance at a better future.

My Interests

Mission
Suanlumkids mission is to empower children through education. We provide an opportunity for under-privileged children to gain the lifelong gift of education. We believe that education can break the cycle of poverty so one can take control of one's own life.

Education is a basic human right, as fundamental as food and shelter. We believe that education is the main ingredient for a good future. By using creative education we are trying to unlock the child's potential that will help them to face the challenges of a fast changing world.

Suanlumpinee school
The Suanlumpinee school is the only school that is situated in a public park, Lumpinee Park, in the business district of Silom central Bangkok. It's a public school with 885 students between the age of 3 and 12 years.

Most of the children in this school come from the slums of Bangkok. Their parents are mainly lower income workers such as taxi drivers, street venders, office maids and low ranking governmental staff. The parents cooperate with the school as much as they can. But these parents have to struggle in their work for daily income, as well as they are not well educated, they are not well equipped with knowledge to teach their own children.
