ART PAGES & CV (in english and japanese!):
www.sml6j6.com/birdo_ChrisO.htm -----  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++-------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------- Student(eciad-photo), freelance writer (Border Crossings, occasionally Discorder), sound art(mostly micro-edited no-input mixer, field recordings, sticking contact mics onto things), 3" cd-r label (StandardGreyEditions- wonk cd available @ blim, chroma, luckys & red cat Also Birdo Flugas in Tokyo. Hidden Fortress cd out now too) and have had visual work published in Woo, Only, Front and on tinyvices.com, Beyond Robson, the Quiet Life Camera Club...had work hanging at Floating Gallery(now Platform) and the Graffiti Gallery in Winnipeg, and Eciad's Concourse gallery and Lugz cafe in Vancouver...Letraset Works up in group show in Toronto @ Headbones as you read this......Doin' the barista schtick to pay the bills at an oldskool Italian sports joint on the Drive, which I love because it's the diametric opposite to art-school-hipster social darwinist highskool retread la-la-land. Ex-pat Winnipegger and proud.

My Interests

..There isn't an "ARTISTS" heading here, which, I am aware makes me sound like a complete wanker, but I've weathered that accusation in the past so here goes: wolfgang tillmans, araki, takeshi homma, martin parr, ann hamilton, rodney graham, louise lawler, rothko, stephen shearer, hiromix, tobias rehberger, liam gillick, wim delvoye, tacita dean, nan goldin, lawrence weiner, stephen shore, daido moriyama, struth, ruscha, ron terada, sugimoto, jorge pardo, andreas slominski, kota ezawa, joseph kosuth, and many others from a mental archive of a whole bunch of dog-eared ARTFORUM pages with names i can't remember...

I'd like to meet:

... otherwise, it's currently under revision

Music:

Depends on the week.... prog, acid folk, black metal, minimal techno, indie rock, j-pop, loner folk, free jazz, raster noton/12k style electronics, onkyo, shameless 80s, synthpop, italo, psych, kraut, world, improv, phonography, old blues, WFMU, hip hop, old country, electroacoustic, bluegrass, stoner rock, doom, old studio one rocksteady and ska, breakcore, ripping 78s from the SallyAnn on 12th to my Mac, modern composers, minimalism in whatever form, harsh noise, obscure dusty funk, dubstep, cocaine rap... All of the above built on a bedrock of 80s punk and 90s hardcore and Brave New Waves (RIP) invading my REM-space everynight for the last 20 years. .. param ..

Movies:

Super Mario Bros: Frustration

.. .. width="425" height="350" ..Kenneth Anger, Nicolas Roeg, Kieslowski, Seijun Suzuki, Agnes Varda (or anything with Sandrine Bonnaire...), Godard, Tarkovsky, Coen Bros, Wes Anderson, Wong Kar Wai, Tsai Ming Liang, Hou Hsaio Hsien, Katzuhito Ishii, Asian cinema in general, and an ongoing Criterion Collection bender. ---Anyone want to buy/burn me the Janus 50 dvd box set? Just putting it out there....Oh yes-Shortbus was a totally warm and sweet film, naysayers be damned. That being said, I have no problem with watching dumb Hollywood blow-'em-ups either. Crank was AWESOME. Otherwise, i could happily watch docu/rockumentaries for the rest of my life. And Busby Berekley.

Television:

Mostly on DVD. Wonder Showzen, Deadwood and Curb Your Enthusiasm as of late....Daily Show and Colbert, The Hour, Mythbusters, Kenny Vs Spenny...plus: Matthew's Best Hit TV and Jichael Mackson---Nihon-no terebi daisuki desu!! [i heart Japanese TV]...HAPPY BATS!!!! Much hello's to Corey, Erica, Robert and Guy... Alot of documentaries via YouTube and Google Video...Also- I've finally made peace with my hockey and soccer loving side of my personality that was buried under various layers of arty/political/subcultural affectations over the years. GO: CANUCKS, ARSENAL, AC MILAN, JUVENTUS, ALL-BLACKS. There. I said it. Forza Azzuri.

Books:

Yes...many. Mostly school-related theory type stuff at the moment: hal foster, deleuze 'n' guattari, zizek, barthes...On my own time: Lester Bangs and all rock journalism in any form. Sedaris, Eggers... bad habit of buying expensive phaidon/aperture art books intead of food....As a rule, I generally don't do fiction...It's just one of those things, not an affectation. Although currently forced to read Frankenstein for a class and have found it to be quite the page-turner. Death of a Salesman blows minds. Also: Magazines- my other other addiction: Tokion, The Wire, Anthem, Artforum, I-D, Skyscraper, Vice...
