I'm having an emotionally bad time right now

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm a bum writer. I just finished my first novel (the first one I've felt that wasn't total crap. I'm hustling it to publishers now. I write and self-record my own music in the indie-rock/folk/punk style. I started playing guitar in about four years ago, looking for a way to turn my poetic leanings into songs. I enjoy it. My friends dig it. Maybe you will too. Go here:http://www.myspace.com/turborathvonto listen.

My Interests

Writing, music, movies, boozing.

I'd like to meet:

Genuine people.

Music:

Elliott Smith (first and foremost), indie rock/indie pop, etc: Heatmiser, No. 2, The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, Belle and Sebastian, The Decemberists, Pixies, New Pornographers, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bright Eyes, Cat Power, Fiery Furnaces, Libertines, Animal Collective, Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Built to Spill, The Clash, Guided By Voices, Velvet Underground (YES!!!) Rilo Kiley, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Low, Arcade Fire, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Spoon, Wolf Parade, Band of Horses, Carissa's Wierd, Iron and Wine, The Smiths, Casual Dots, Gomez, Bloc Party, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Soviettes, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Wrens, Beirut, The Dears, Destroyer, Love is All, Beta Band, Broken Social Scene, Calexico, Nick Drake, Pernice Brothers, Gang of Four, The Organ, The Sounds, Metric, Superchunk, The Long Winters, Jayhawks, Beach Boys, Neil Young, Solo John Lennon and George Harrison to name a few...

Movies:

Wes Anderson movies: Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic; Montey Python: The Life of Brian (oh my!) etc...; Coen Brothers movies (The Big Lebowski is my favorite)- Fargo, God bless it!, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; and hell, I don't know, movies in that vein, The Last Picture Show; I like ridiculous movies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High, movies like Dazed and Confused... also Swingers, Made. Stranger than Fiction. A Christmas Story may be my favorite movie ever. Classic movies like East of Eden, Rebel Without a Cause, Key Largo, Casablanca, The Great Escape, Arsenic and Old Lace (I watch a lot of Turner Classic Movies). The Marx Brothers! I love them. And Charlie Chaplin! My recomendation for a movie you might not have seen but ought to check out: Kicking and Screaming (not the Will Farrell movie, but the indie Noah Baumbach written and directed, finally out on dvd). I own a few good movies, but can't think of them.

Television:

The Office, Earl, Arrested Development, News Radio, 3rd Rock From the Sun, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I don't know, Seinfeld, I guess, and definitely M*A*S*H (I was raised on that show). Kids in the Hall, Strangers with Candy. There are many more, but who cares? I like House, if that matters, and I used to watch 90210 religiously. Oh yes, and (how could I forget?) The Daily Show, The Colbert Report. Go read a book!

Books:

Jeepers, I'm a Kerouac addict. I admire him most as a writer. Also Hunter S. Thompson. I love him. He was a model journalist, plus he's a role model for the kids! Bukowski! Burroughs. And sure, I like Hemmingway for some reason, and Fitzgerald (he's a Minnesota boy like me) and Jon Krakauer's books on climbing and weirdodom, and throw in Ken Kesey...oh gosh, and f'ing Emmerson. I love Emmerson. I'm also sort of a biblical scholar (no one else I know would attach that title to me, you should know) as I was a religion major in college as well as English. Hell, I find great enjoyment in reading weird old religious texts and basically anything dismantling popular myths about Christianity (I'm not against my religion -- I've just learned that it's much more difficult to understand than I was originally taught). Also really into Alpha Squad 7: Lady Nocturn - A Tek Jansen Adventure. Give it a read. Either way, godbless and be done with it.Also, Poetry: T.S. Eliot E.A. Robinson Robert Frost Dylan Thomas Walt Whitman more...

Heroes:
