Vasili Gavre grew up in San Francisco influenced by the hip-hop, electronic and rock scene of California. Studying piano at age 8 and self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Gavre picked up djing in high school. At age 18, Gavre began interning at The Justice League, nominated best nightclub in San Francisco and quickly became a respected dj mentoring under DJ Pause of Midnight Voices and Timex Social Club. Pause co-produced Gavre’s first single “Liven Life†and his first mix c.d. “Illumination†received enthusiastic reviews by URB Magazine. During college at The University Of Santa Cruz he started his own event company Divercity Productions LLC and his event COLORS was nominated the best dance club year after year.
In 2003, he moved to New York to focus on production and developing artists. He soon began djing through out the city and began collaborating with producer Al Obergon a.k.a. Care Kulsaki on projects for Ice-T, Grand Wizard Theodore and Kool Keith. New York inspired Gavre to merge his diverse musical interests and began working at M.C.T. Management assisting clients such as Moby, Rufus Wainwright and Kaskade. Gavre began producing and managing a Seattle based artist EMME and their first song "Do You Have A Girlfriend" caught the attention of many labels including JIVE Records in consideration for Britney Spears next album.
In 2005 Gavre continued to dj at both luxurious and dirty venues with artists such as Grammy nominated Jay-J, Latrice Barnett and Marc-Alan Gray of Loveslap! Gavre signed "You're Leaven" to K.I.D. Recordings, Chris Brann's label of Wamdue Project and began residencies at New York hot spots The Hudson Hotel, Lotus and GuestHouse. His dj sets started to span all over the map embracing all soulful genre's influenced by New York's rock scene and San Francisco's electronic pop sounds. This influenced his production to incorporate all styles of music and be more open in his songwriting approaches.
Currently Gavre is producing new groups including Nashville singer Mimi Wells and writing songs for signed artists with songwriter Mark Cater who wrote hits for artist such as Twisted Sister. SonyBMG artist Jonathan Mendelsohn is cutting several of Gavre's tunes for his new album and Gavre is working as a publisher for Toby Gad who wrote Fergie's new hit "Big Girls Don't Cry". During the week in New York you can find Gavre at Crushing Music looking for the next big song to put in a commercial or working in the studio.
