My name is Bobby Clarke & I've been playin bass for 36yrs. I am owner/operator of Studio 47 in Mt.Vernon NY. I am also 1 of the founding members of NYC's hottest bands "Funk That". I've been fortunate 2 jam with loads of cats in my day,Will Calhoun;Doug Wimbish;Nile Rodgers;Bernard Edwards;Bernie Worrell;Larry Graham;Sarah Dash; The Intruders; The Delfonics;Bob Baldwin;Alex Bugnon;Billy Grant;Lenny Underwood, just 2 name a few. I've found that the KISS formula works well with most situations...keep it simple stupid. The most profound thing i learned was from the father of the slap bass,Larry Graham. He said having chops is important, but can u just groove on 1 note, and make it feel like u mean it... The key word here is feel... Bass is a instrument that delivers more feel than sound. Later this year, i plan 2 start a program 2 teach inner-city kids the the art of recording. the real stuff...mic placement, the use of sidechain input for compression, etc. Anybody can sample a James Brown tune 2 make a hit. Lets take it back 2 where it all started. Real music played by real musicans. As well as fixing gear when it breaks down. I was a maintance enegineer at a major recording facility in NYC. There is a ton of money 2 b made when u have these skills under ur belt. Figure it like this, if a studio is charging a client
[email protected] recording time, u don't want long periods of down time cause stuff isn't working.
