Love that bluegrass music, and a hard driving 5-string

About Me

top: 0px;" border="0" I'm a person steeped in bluegrass music. I am a founding member of the Green Mountain Bluegrass Band, and currently the banjo player for the Green Mountain Bluegrass Band. I am also the banjo player for a band called Old Circle. Music (especially bluegrass music) is my passion. I am a past president of the Oregon Bluegrass Association (1997-2003). I used to program a three hour bluegrass radio show called "Miles of Bluegrass" on KRVM (a public radio station here in Eugene). I did that show for 5 years.
I like to take easy bicycle rides (15 or 20 miles) with my darling wife! I like to spend an occasional weekend at the Oregon coast. I like to do interior house painting when there are no opportunities to play bluegrass music (which is NOT often). I've got three wonderful grown children, and a very special woman that I've been married to for 35 years (of coarse the mother of my beautiful children).

Politicians give me the creeps. To quote Jerry Garcia, "When you have to make a choice of voting for the lessor of two evils, you're still voting for evil." With the current regime in the White House, I've lost my faith in the government. I firmly believe that money is the root of all evil, and he who hoards it IS EVIL. I have a hard time dealing with hypocritical people who go to church professing to be Christians (look around... they're everywhere). Organized western religions scare the hell out of me when I think of the power they impose on their disciples, and the fear they instill into the minds of their disciples through brainwashing all in the name of Jesus! Is it supposed to be that way? I think that's their point. How else could they afford those fancy churches and put the preacher on the payroll?

My Interests

Collecting records/antique ties/teaching guitar, banjo or mandolin/sharing my knowledge of bluegrass music/photography/old cars/aircraft/a little bit of leather work/handcrafting unique items. Collecting junk that I think will be valuable examples of today's lifestyle (otherwise known as a pack rat). I hope to preserve the samples for future generations.

I'd like to meet:

Anybody earnest in learning how to play bluegrass music, or anyone interested in learning about bluegrass music. Someone that can teach, or show me something that I can use on a regular basis to make life a little easier. People who are forthright and honest with nothing to hide, and who are willing to share.
I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Music:

Bluegrass music as it was presented by the "Masters." Early "Country" music from the 40's, 50's & 60's. Some sixties rock & roll.

Movies:

My butt gets tired... I don't do movies very often because all I see is a bunch of actors and props. I DO, however, occasionally partake in a funny movie because I like to laugh.

Television:

I have not succumbed to the whole cable/network thing. If I can't get the signal on my "rabbit ears," TV's NOT high enough on my priority list to worry about. For the most part, I DO enjoy documentaries, or programs that offer something useful that I can use to learn new things. But of course I can't turn down the opportunity to snuggle on the couch with my sweetie while we're watching "Dancing With The Stars," or "So You Wish You Could Dance," or "Desperate Housewives." Sometimes we tune in "Wheel of Torture," (most of those contestants are so lame!) for a distraction while we're eating dinner. "Jeopardy" is always fun, but I never can remember some of those cool facts that are uncovered. At any rate, we don't stress about TV, or use the television program guide to rule our lives. Thank goodness for the mute on the remote! ... I'd much rather be picking anyway; that's making good use of my time!

Books:

I don't really read much... books that is! I DO read my Bluegrass Unlimited every month though!

Heroes:

To name a few: Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Carter Stanley, Bob Paisley, Dan Paisley, Mac Martin, Vern Williams, Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, Porter Church, Red Allen, Bill Emerson, and Charlie Waller. (more to be added)
