About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
Greetings Everyone!
I have been experimenting with synthesizers since I was a kid, and have been writing and recording music since the late 1980s. After years of having given my energies to other priorities and having suffered lost opportunities by not persuing my musical carreer sooner, I have arrived at the point where I am now ready to go serious with producing and promoting some of my music to the world.
I am here on MySpace with the hope of getting the attention of record companies, producers, promoters, etc., and it is my hope that I become a popular and prominent contributor to the global trance music scene. While I would love to perform at Trance Energy, I have also always wanted to produce movie sound tracks and background music for earth-science and cosmology documentaries, as I have been inspired by similar music done for various productions aired on The History Channel, National Geographic Channel, and The Science Channel. I am currently un-signed, but I invite any labels who may wish to change this. Your support and fanship will be extremely valuable as it will provide encouragement and inspiration to continue working to release new material for your enjoyment.
Last year I released "Paradise Lost". My newest release is "Trance Sequence - 12". I had intended to post this track earlier this year, but the release of this track was delayed due to distractions with work. In truth, the track was never really finished, but I felt that it's release had been delayed long enough. I will probably go back and revise it again later and release an updated version, but for now the track is substantial enough to be listened to and even mixed at clubs or various events by skilled DJs all over the world.
I have other music I am working up and preparing to release as well - some that I began years ago and simply need to finish, and some that have been storring up in my head now for nearly as long. In any case, look for more earth1 releases, as I will be posting them here before the end of summer.
A note about my music:
For those interested in getting inside the mind that conceives and creates these tracks to discover their origin and possible meaning, it is important to realize that I grew up in a time when the synthesizer was a very "up and comming" and popular device. All of my favorite bands in the 1980s had some kind of synth weather it be a Yamaha DX-7, or an Oberheim OB-XA. Virtually every technology of musical synthesis was conceived in the 1980s or prior, and the products on the synth market were diverse. Even today, the technology behind it all hasn't really changed much. The 8 bit computer technologies of the early 1980s were very formative influences of my tastes for sounds, and I learned the technologies behind them from an early age. Trips to the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport was a fascinating thrill, especially when riding the subway system there because the automated voice on the subway was artificially generated, a formant speech synthesizer who's rendered speech was eerily similar to the Roland VP-330 vococder which I was accustomed to hearing, as it was used to create the voice of cylons on the then popular television show Battle Star Galactica. Movie sound tracks such as Tron and War Games made extensive use of the technologies of the day, and though I was barely 10 years old, none of it was lost on me. Though I have always loved music and sounds, I never did learn to play the guitar. I have had a passing interest in learning the instrument, but somehow I never really gravitated toward it as a medium for creating music. Some people can sit and pluck a guitar for hours. Me, I can sit for hours turning knobs, tweeking paramenters, and finding the endless possible variations of sounds that one can get from a synth. I get the same kind of relaxation doing this as most rockers get from plucking guitar strings. As far as musical styles, I have always loved dance and techno music with rich harmonies and chord progressions. These are the kinds of music that inspire me most, and my own music brings a lot of these elements to the forefront. In making my music, I like to enlist the use of synthesizers old and new, and I especially love using instruments that may have fallen out of popularity but that still have powerful and even un-tapped possibilities such as the Arp 2600, or the Korg Wavestation. Digging into the past by using instruments like these, as well as antiquated production techniques, makes my music noticably intriguing and gives it distinction from what everyone else is doing.
On the philosophical side:
I have my own ideas about the philosophy of musical creativity. The ancient philosopher Plato believed that all truth is "archtypal", eternal and absolute, unchanging, and that philosophers, through meditation, careful pondering and reflection can get impressions - that is, catch conceptual glimpses of these archtypes and bring knowledge of these truths to this mortal plane. I believe that among all the truth that exists eternally, that "musical truth" is to be found among these archtypes as well. I believe that there are certain sounds, melodies, chord progressions or even mantras that have eternal significance, and an archtypal counterpart. Just as Plato believed that the philosopher brings philosophical truth to the mortal plane, I believe that the creative musician can bring musical truth to this mortal plane as well. With this in mind, I believe that some (not all) music or perhaps just elements of certain songs, are inspired of eternal archtypes. There are times that I hear a song and I hear elements of it that really strike a chord of inspiration within me. Some such music, I can almost hear how it should end without ever having heard the rest of it. It's almost as if I could have written the music myself, even thought someone else did it and deserves the credit for it. I believe that in instances like these, there is some eternal truth behind the music, and that the person who wrote it did so as a result of being in touch with that archtype, just as I am too at that moment of listening to it. I believe that inspiration is a very real phenomenon where music is concerned, and that this is why creative freedom is so important. Though I recognize the need to write music for your particular genre and market, the quest for expression requires the freedom to remain creative and even experimental. Therefore it becomes important to strike the balance between creative expression and the discipline of creating a product that the industry can comfortably market. Finding this balance has been a long journey for me, and I'm not exactly sure that it is over yet. Perhaps it is never over as long as new and fresh ideas are to be entertained. If so, I can accept that, as surely it is the least of the price a musician pays for bringing new ideas to the world.
