DEREK PROMISES TO UPDATE THIS PAGE SOMETIME...THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT......RESISTOR is a powerful and dynamic connection, a lasting friendship that channels the energies, passions and dreams of Kevin Jones (voice), Derek Ho (guitars), Chris Deal (bass) and Scott Susag (drums) into brilliant sparks of Rock that electrify and elevate the hearts and souls of the world. With sonic landscapes of deep, powerful rhythms and captivating melodies, RESISTOR tells timeless stories of love, faith, and survival.Kevin, Derek and Chris grew up in the Kaneohe-Kahaluu area of Oahu, Hawaii. Although Kevin befriended Derek and Chris separately during high school, the two later met in college. Each of the trio’s musical talents on Piano, Guitar and Bass, were inspired by their shared love of American and British Rock music of the 1970’s and 80’s. Their dreams of writing and playing music led to forays into various instruments, bands and songs – forging a strong musical partnership that remains more powerful than ever two decades later.
The unit that would become RESISTOR first came together in the mid 90’s, when the trio met Scott in Honolulu’s small but vibrant rock music scene. Scott, a gifted musician since youth, had gone on to play with many noted local musicians. In 1995 Kevin, Derek and Scott officially became (Elizabeth) Hortonsphere, writing, performing and recording original rock music in Honolulu, with Chris in the role of “sound manâ€, developing his skills with sound engineering and technical direction.
Although Hortonsphere remained together for only half a year, the four musicians continued with their craft, remaining in touch while honing their skills. Derek and Chris had a brief stint as members of local favorites Way Cool Jr. in the late 90’s. Chris developed his present career as the sound engineer for many popular Honolulu night-spots. Scott performed in Hawaii’s premier Beatles tribute band, Rubber Soul. Kevin moved to Las Vegas, recorded and toured with the Rock band Crashdove until 2004, then returned to Hawai’i in 2005. Derek created and directed the musical project Girls ’r Evil, that produced 5 albums of material ranging from Hawaiian to Alternative to Country, while also pursuing his career as a mechanical engineer with an important local contractor.
Once Kevin moved home in 2005, it wasn’t long before he, Chris, Scott and Derek created the perfect Rock music experience for Hawaii. The re-formed quartet played its first performance in June 2005, under the name Hortonsphere (for old times sake). The local scene immediately took notice as the band appealed to fans both old and new alike. This first performance was followed by offers to perform all over Hawai’i. A few months later, the band formally announced from the stage of Wave Waikiki its name change to RESISTOR. The four friends had come full-circle.
RESISTOR plays to a wide variety of audiences all over Oahu each week. After a very successful 2006, the band is currently recording it’s debut album, planned to be complete by Summer 2007.
