About Me

For Screwtape Lewis re-invention is a constant, fusing new wave, cabaret, punk, disco and rock into intelligent, hook driven songs. For this reason the band may be best described as "user friendly art rock". Their latest release The Opulent Hum was produced by platinum selling songwriter Jay Semko of Northern Pikes fame.
...like nothing else out there...smash hit in the waiting...Edmonton Journal
...real swagger and catchy songs...this record is brilliant...Lunakafe
The album went on to gain plays across Canada on mainstream rock and campus radio formats as well as earning them SONiC 102.9 FM's Band of the Month. Most recently, the band landed 5 songs and a featured performance in the newly released sci-fi film Decoys: Second Seduction.
Screwtape Lewis first gained critical acclaim in 2001 with the release of their quirky lounge-meets-punk EP Art Rock Show. Two years later they produced their first full length entitled Better. Stronger. Faster, a highly conceptualized mix of Marshall McLuhan inspired themes set against punk rock energy and new wave sophistication. It was here that Screwtape Lewis began receiving radio attention, most notably peaking at 3 on the hometown campus station CJSR FM as well as features on Portugal's BaNG BaNG Radio. Aside from radio friendly sounds, the band began building a reputation as an engaging live act, evidenced by festival appearances at Stage 13, North Country Fair, Alberta's Own Indie Fest, End of the Road Festival, 4th Street Lilac Festival and University of Alberta's Week of Welcome as well as countless club dates.
Since the fall of 2006 the band has decidedly kept a low profile to concentrate entirely on recording its fourth CD entitled Finding Ways to Self Destruct. With a darker, more urgent sound best described as "dancefloor noir" Screwtape Lewis continues to shift the gears of reinvention.

Then There Were Three...

We recently made a major decision within the band to once again work as a trio. Bands are not only tough to put together, but even more challenging to keep together. Sometimes no amount...
