Everything that isn't massively ordinary in this town. I like Detroit. I've been hanging out there for 20 years. Been dancing for 22 yrs. One of the creators of "House Dancing" in Detroit (Actually most of the style came from Buffalo New York. The three of us just built on it. Larry, Jarvis, and "the white guy") I like excercise (mental, physical, and spiritual) not competition. Love to teach. But also love to learn. The trick is knowing when to do which one. Less ego, more openness (trust). I like water and nature. Fresh air. Organic food. Don't get me started on food.
Huge collection of Classical, Jazz, Punk, and some Rap (older stuff, very picky) and Electronic.
Electronic music?!
That's a pretty broad term now-a-days.
I've got a old record collection most DJ's would kill me for.
(It might put my daughter through college)
But I'm real old school. No kidding. I used to stay up late and listen to Mojo on WJLB at Midnight. He would spin "Tour De France" for like half and hour. I had it taped but it's long gone by now. Most of the time I listen to House. ( Which is another broad term )
Like Larry Heard ( had the original double album "Amnesia" but someone stole it looong ago.)Aril Brikha, Dan Curtin, Titonton Duvante, Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon, Rick Wilhite, Rick Wade ( got some of his mixes from '94 and '96, siiick!) Norm Tally, Osunlade, Mike Huckaby, Damon Booker, John Tejada, and last but not least Claude Young. Just to name a few.
Favorite DJ's; Kai Alce, ShortRound!, Vincent Haliburton, Mike Geiger, Mike Huckaby, Mike Clark, Delano Smith, Keith Worthy, Omar S., Jay Langa, Brian Gillespie. And not just because their hometown, they know how to bring it! All my peeps in New York agree!
New York House Dancing
..
DEFINITION OF "HOUSE DANCING"
Coming from a 20 year veteran here is my "opinion" on House Dancing and House in general. House Dancing has an assortment of moves attached to it right now, but that will forever change and evolve. Which all "Living" things do. Any art that is mimicking and stagnate is dead. Dance must grow not repeat itself every decade. Thanks for all the links to YouTube "breakdancers" attempting to understand and mimic House Dancing. It's not your rehearsed moves and practiced tricks to show up someone in your "Circles". It's not the move your doing. It's the feeling and intension behind it. "House" is an interpersonal experience. Until you get that House Dancing starts as internal not external you will never be "Housin". Just Break Dancing.
Which is all EGO!! NYC house Dance Part 6
