Organic Funk is an eclectic three piece band with a sound that moves across various musical genres. They possess a vibe that is a mix of the energy of rock n roll, and the rhythms of classic funk and reggae. Continually experimenting with different sounds and genres of music to meld them together, their sound creates a truly unique and organic journey into music.Organic funk was formed in 1998 in Lenox, Massachusetts. The band consists of brothers, Michael and Jason Costantini, and long time friend Michael Sullivan. They began as high school friends who played music together and eventually progressed into writing original music. They went on to play various small festivals and events in Massachusetts. In 2000 they recorded a 7 track all original EP at Derek studio’s in Dalton MA. But once the band members graduated from high school they looked to move somewhere were they could reach a larger audience and develop their music. The band chose to relocate to Toronto due to the atmosphere of the city and the diverse musical landscape.In 2005 they recorded another demo of original music and began to play various venues across the city, all while continually writing and recording new material.Their list of achievements includes writing music for Tribute Entertainments award winning documentary “Sharkwaterâ€. Their energetic and moving live chemistry, acquired over years of performing together, helped them to advance to the Ontario final of the international Emergenza battle of the bands; with Mike Sullivan winning the award for best bassist.Currently Organic Funk is gearing up for the release of their debut album entitled “When It Began†which is set to be released January 19th, 2008 upstairs at the El Mocambo. They hope to tour in the spring of 2008 in support of “When It Beganâ€, and to promote their sophomore album. They have already shot a video for their song “Two Times†and are gearing up to shoot another video for their song “Ashesâ€. Other endeavours include filming a documentary to accompany the tour and album. They continue to record new material and will be heading back into the studio to record their sophomore album “Speak Now†in the spring of 2008.E-mail: [email protected]
