About Me

The Reverend Jean-Bertrand Aristide (born 1953) was elected president of Haiti by a landslide in 1990 but then was deposed by a military coup in 1991. A radical populist, acclaimed by the masses and feared by Haiti's power elite, he remained in exile until 1994 when a U.S. military occupation of Haiti restored him to power. Elected again in 2000, he was overthrown once again in 2004, but this time with the help of elite funded death squads based out of the dominican republic and tens of millions of dollars in "democracy promotion" money spent by USAID, CIDA, and the EU.Under Aristide hundreds of schools and roads were built. Medicine and literacy programs for the first time became a priority. Public busses and publis schools were invested in. After the coup dozens of these Dignite program busses were torched by the Group 184 backed death squads. Today the Latortue dictatorship has worked to undermine and wipe away the gains made by the Lavalas movement while it was in office. Much similar struggles in South Africa, Venezuela, Bolivia, etc.... Lavalas has represented the voice of popular democracy and the poor in Haiti. The U.S. State Department and the Group 184 will stop at nothing to spread disinformation and destabilization.
