About Me

This is Joan Crawford, my account that I worked so hard on has been deleted. I'm not sure why, but I'd like to start straight away at building up my new account. I know I can make it great again! Bless you all, Joan
You know me as Joan Crawford, Queen of Hollywood and The Ultimate Movie Star. I was born Lucille Fay Lesueur on March 23 1908, in San Antonio Texas. Like most stars I did not have a favorable childhood, I came from a broken home and we were very poor. My family and I had to work the worst kinds of jobs just to survive. I had a burning desire to change my life in a big way. I loved to dance and as a teenager danced all over the Mid West, competing in contests and entertaining in nightclubs. I moved to Los Angeles in 1925 and was cast in my first role, in “Pretty Ladies” soon after. Determined I did whatever I could to gain notice of the public eye and the big boys in the biz. I made friends with William Haines, he taught me some things about the biz and we had a lot of laughs. I’ve always loved to dance and party, spent a lot of time at the Coconut Grove night club and won dance contests. In the 1928 film “Our Dancing Daughters” I got my big break. I showed off my dancing and was very well received, as a flapper I was a total hit. I met Douglas Fairbanks Jr., who was the son of a great man of Hollywood and a popular actor himself. I married him, thinking it was a good idea at the time. We didn’t get along so well, I grew bored with him and his family didn’t think I was good enough for him. He had his own criticisms of me as well. We divorced only after a few years. In the 30’s my fame had exploded, I was up there with the biggest stars of the time. MGM had me doing all those shop girl pictures, where I got the dream in the end. I was seeing Clack Gable here and there, and ended up getting married again to Franchot Tone. I might as well have taken a flying leap at the moon, but instead I married Franchot. It was crazy with him, lots of nonsense. So that ended too. In the 40’s my career was dying down. Over time I adopted 4 children, 5 if you count the one they took away when his biological mother got word of his whereabouts. Some think I became a mother to save my career, but it’s not true. I was unable to have children and when my career was at it’s best, I didn’t have the time to think about anything else. The children did earn me publicity though, and my career was taking off again. At this time I had another failed marriage to Phillip Terry. I soon parted ways with MGM as well without so much as a heartfelt goodbye. I signed with Warner Brothers, waited a while till I got a good script and then starred in “Mildred Pierce” in 1945. I won the Best Actress Oscar of that year for that picture. Things were steady through the 50’s and 60’s. I made “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane” with Bette Davis and it was a comeback for me. I got married for the for the 4th and last time to Alfred Steele, chairman of Pepsi cola. He was a dear, dear man and I loved him very much. When has passed from a heart attack I continued to serve on the board of Pepsi Cola, because I was after all “The Queen of Pepsi Cola”. Eventually I was forced into retirement, some people can be so disloyal. After that I did some TV stuff and made a few Horror films. I became sick with cancer and in 1977 I passed. Where I am now I am happy, happy to know that to this day I am still loved by so many. Bless you!

My Interests

Oh darling, haven’t you heard, I’m quite the party girl. I love to dance, hell I’ve won my share of trophies for it. Being an actress is my talent, being a star is my life. I live for my fans and never want to let any of them down. I also like to knit and clean the house from top to bottom. I like everything to be tidy, it keeps me busy. Despite what you might hear, being a mother is one of my many blessing. I had hard times raising the children, but nothing is supposed to be easy. I just have a great love for people, but it’s my fans that have kept me going. I love you all……
Spending time with the children, Christina, Christopher, Cathy and Cindy.
Anyone up for tennis?

I'd like to meet:

Well you of course, my fans and soon to be friends. No one else gave me as much love and support as my fans, I do everything for you. I love to receive all your wonderful messages, it simply makes my day.

Books:

"My Way Of Life" by me Joan Crawford!

Heroes:

William Haines is a true hero for me.We had a friendship that lasted our entire lives. Not only did he take me under his wing and teach me all the tricks when I came to Hollywood, but he is a very courageous man. He was an out and proud gay man in a time when it was unheard of. He would not hide who he was and because of that it cost him his career in showbiz. He then became an interior designer and spent his life with his lover Jimmy Shields. I think of them as the happiest married couple in Hollywood. Not long after Billy Haines died of lung cancer his lover Jimmy took his life. He put on Billy’s pajamas, took a bottle of pills and climbed in their bed. I just know they are together now. May God bless them......
