YELLOW PLANES

Weak... both in morals and upper body strength.

About Me

First off: YELLOW PLANES broke up some time ago (So that means, stop asking us to play your silly shows, and no, we're not interested in participating in your fucking pay-to-play comp). Geographical (as opposed to musical) differences were sited in the official memo. Most of the YP songs, should you care to hear them live, have been absorbed into THE PEABODYS current set lists.
Ahem. Now on with the story...
We've decided to forget the last five years or so of "punk rock" (and so should you, if you know what's good for you): Mass marketed, soulless, over-produced, over-compressed, Mesa-driven, Auto-tuned, pretty boy dreck... Music about not getting laid by kids who get laid a lot. Guh. Forget that garbage. We also ignore the "artfully" underproduced (but not too much) "rock revival" crap that's all the rage these days too. Can't anyone just have a cool band anymore without trying to fit into some pre-approved hipster niche? Jesus.
YELLOW PLANES are back-to-basics, smart, raw, 70's-by-way-of-early-90's-sounding pop punk rock. Not glossy. Not trendy in the least. Early Lookout Records East Bay-style. Pop punk with emphasis on the "punk" part... just catchy. You get the idea? (Isn't it sad that early nineties punk could almost be considered "old school"? Sadder still what ten or so years, a few over-zealous producers, and some downright stupid kids have done to the genre since... But I digress) The original name of the band was Yellow PLAINS, and was originally planned as an attempt at alternative country, ala Old 97s and Slobberbone. It soon turned into just a mid-tempo and slightly weirder Peabodys, and, as such, didn't fit its name very well. Do you even care about this crap? Meh.

YELLOW PLANES were founded in the bustling metropolis of Warren in the backwoods of northwestern Pennsylvania, but songwriter/singer/guitarist/douchbag, Eric Peabody, now calls Portland, OR home. He has this crappy other band called The Peabodys . Basically, the same damn thing, at this point.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: ericpeabody.com (not really, but look at this)
Band Members: Eric Peabody - vocals, guitar, head honcho, Craig Mullen - bass guitar, Eric Boyd - drums, backing vocals, and (occasionally) Andy King - guitar, backing vocals
Influences: Screeching Weasel, Jawbreaker/Jets to Brazil, Mr. T Experience, Green Day, The Smiths/Morrissey, Ramones, (kind of obviously) The Peabodys , Ben Kweller, Crimpshrine, Slobberbone, Psychedelic Furs, Elvis Costello, The Cure, Neil Diamond, Michael Jackson, Smoking Popes, Old 97s, Johnny Cash, Husker Du, The Replacements/Paul Westerburg, Promise Ring, The Parasites, Hank Williams, Pernice Brothers, The Who, Queen, Lillingtons, The Vandals, Prince, Egghead, Scared Of Chaka, Angry Samoans, The Dickies, The Automatics, Weezer, The Yum Yums, Weston, Lemonheads, Fifteen, Dirt Bike Annie, Guns 'N' Roses, The Mummies, Devil Dogs, The Pixies, Pat Dull & His Media Whores, The Ergs, The Go Gos, Dillinger Four, The Misfits, Slowride, Darlington, Exploding Hearts, Buzzcocks, The Pagans, Dead Boys, Benjamin Cartel, Robbie Fulks, Joe Jackson, Dead Milkmen... If you don't absolutely adore and revere most of the bands on this list, you won't like us, and, well, you probably fucking suck.
Sounds Like: Husker Du, The Replacements, Jawbreaker, Crimpshrine, Lemonheads, J Church, Jets To Brazil, Psychedelic Furs, Green Day, Social Distortion, The Parasites, Weston, The Smiths... if a mix like this makes any sense at all. How about this? What I was trying to do with The Peabodys, but lacked the talent to pull off. I'm older, wiser, and somewhat more adept at playing guitar. I also managed to wreck my voice to (at least my version of) shitty perfection with too much alcohol. If you like it, you like it; if you don't, well, you probably like bands like The Used and there's no hope for you anyway...

Playing Right Field.

At all cost, get George Tabb's new book, Playing Right Field, a hilarious and often bittersweet, sometimes tragic, recounting of his youth. An amazing and very entertaining book.

I Was A Teenage Meatfucker. Part Two.

I came home from work one night, and there he was, a scruffy, odd-smelling, farmboy-looking guy with dirty blonde hair (and yes, that is a double entendre) and a facial resemblence to Steve Perry, sin...
