KILSY

PECULIAR STAR

About Me

It's 1979 street-smart punk rock sung by a year 2012 Nexus 6 type female replicant, maybe customized for Leonard Cohen's use, and played by two immortalized John Paul Jones'! Yes, that's right. 2 bass players, driven into a frenzy by a Topper meets Moon percussionist/wizard! In fact, most of the sound of Bonita O! starts at the bottom; bass and drum generated sonics that satisfy the ear without questioning "what is that sound?"
The diamond here is Kilsy's evocative voice and the way it makes you ask yourself who is this person, where is she from, and why am I empathizing with what she is saying? This is a real gift, a natural connector between you and the music.
Bonita O! is a recording of the birth of a band, the tracks jump out at you because it captures this moment of sythesis. You will feel the Zeppelinesque, hip-hop-like grooves of 'Hazy Light' and 'Frenzy Overdrive' in your chest. Your ears will perk up to the spy intro and blast off of 'Not Gonna Cry', and your heart will yearn as KILSY emotes through 'Show Me Off' and 'The Window'. You will be unable to hold back your smile every time the disco-hybrid 'Bonita' plays, and you will be unable to remove that smile as you dance through 'Walk on Home' and 'Brand New Day'. And for sheer energy and fist-pounding pogoing 'Peculiar Star' and 'Hurt So' will leave you breathless. The rhythm of the music is relentless and that's what comes through every listen. Be sure to let the CD run for some hidden gems.
The overriding themes of longing and contradictions in life, love and pop itself compliment a rambunctious electro-rock musical soundtrack, creating a perpetual teenage-like state of excitement and release.
KILSY is a proven live band, having won over audiences at NYC-area venues such as Joe's Pub, CBGB, The Knitting Factory, Arlene's Grocery, The Court Tavern and Maxwell’s. “We’ve been blessed by a great reception from the audiences we’ve played for so far,” says Dan Green. “We play with a lot of energy and the energy comes back. Even though the music has a dark edge, Kilsy’s quirkiness and animated performances make audiences smile,” he says.
KILSY has also made their mark in the New Jersey press. They were a recent cover story in Exit magazine, they were the subject of a multi-page article in JC downtown and a recent show of theirs was venerable rock writer Jim Testa’s Pick of the Week on Blow Up Radio.com.
With the release of Bonita O! and a solid foundation of live shows, KILSY is looking ahead. As Kilsy states: “At this stage, the future’s wide open for us. We feel good about the work we’ve done so far, we’re pleased with the results and we’re ready for tomorrow.”

Sounds Like: Now that's a hard question.....the best thing to do, is to listen to the songs on this page or watch some of the videos. We think we sound like 1979 street rock and roll!

We cover the Banshees, and Cocteau Twins, and because of our instrumentation live, we sound more like Gang of Four. Bonita O! our debut cd is full of different sounds, 17 songs with diverse instrumentation. Some soley with the 4 of us playing live, vox, 2 bass' and drums, and the others with pianos, keyboards, guitars, sax, harmonica and percussion (etc.). There are tracks that rappers want. There are rock'n'roll songs, ballads, but everything will wanna make you move. I think that's what defines our sound, the rhythm. The 80's label/genre is a little bit off base in our case because we are all about the emotional rawness and live feel that was almost buried later in that era.
