Sydney based Grinding Death/Thrash Metal outfit Head Hammer began in late September 04. Head Hammers first official release was a 2 track demo entitled Bang Ur Head featuring Retaliation upon Salvation & Hand of Man. With this release Head Hammer gained a little attention by having both tracks being played on 2RRRs The Dead End and having Retaliation Upon Salvation selected to be on the Underearthed 3 compilation which showcased Australia’s up and coming metal bands of the time. With being included on the UE3 Compilation Head Hammer started gigging in the local Sydney Scene playing numerous shows with some of Australia’s elite metal acts such as Skintilla, Daysend, Vaticide & Ebolie. Hand of Man was also included on the Asylum Radio DVD Everything on Black. Those 2 tracks being the only material recorded, Head Hammer decided to once again enter the studio in November 05 to record a 7 track E.P entitled Declaration of War featuring all previously unreleased tracks with one of those track being included on the Underearthed 4 Compilation again solidifying Head Hammer as a new up and coming band to watch out for. Before the official release of Declaration Head Hammer released a 2 track sample cd in order to see whether the new E.P would be a success or not, within no time Head Hammer received many requests for the release of Declaration of War. Declaration of War was received extremely well in the Sydney scene receiving numerous reviews from Tomato Records, Bone Machine, Metal of Oz and many more. Following the successful release of the E.P Head Hammer attained a steady following by playing a large amount of shows in and out of Sydney spanning over the next 6 months promoting the E.P and themselves as a serious band. In recent times Head Hammer took a short break in late 06 to write and record a new E.P, This E.P is still untitled and features 5 new tracks including a grind core version of Silverchairs Freak and a re recorded version of Retaliation Upon Salvation. So far what has been released of the E.P has been received very well in Australia and overseas with national airplay on 2RRRs The Dead End and Triple J’s Full Metal Racket. The new E.P is set for release in mid 07 followed by a mini tour including events such as Metalstock ’07 and Slaughter Fest.
