We are LIFE'S DAILY STRUGGLE, a 5 piece semi-melodic hardcore punk rock band from Los Angeles' San Gabriel Valley. We play a distinctive brand of fast and aggressive punk rock with a melodic touch. To get an idea of our sound imagine punk and metal influenced guitar riffs with raw vocals and some fierce screaming. Add a wall of semi melodic backing vocals and combine it all with intense and precise drumming. It's hard for us to describe so you'll just have to listen and judge for yourself.
Formed in early 1996 we started jamming out as a punk rock cover band called "Long Dong Silvers", named after the legendary black porno star himself. Playing mostly backyard parties we quickly grew notoriety as a fuck around punk band and played all over the SGV scene. As we grew up we started to take ourselves and music more seriously, we dropped the covers and started writing our own material. We then thought it was time to change the name of our band but to keep the L.D.S. memory alive we changed it to "Life’s Daily Struggle". Seemed appropriate since our songs were about the trials and tribulations of being a youth and societies pressures. We have gone thru numerous line ups but mostly consisting of original members Mike Lai, Dave Andrews and Eric Valdez who joined after our first "official" gig in March 1996 when then singer James Sanjenis decided to leave. It wouldn't be until 7 years later that we would see James back in the band this time playing guitar.
We played our last live show on March 18th 2005 which was our 9th year together as a band. Shortly after, our drummer decided to part ways with us. We tried out numerous replacements but couldn’t find the one to keep us going and starting over again for the zillionth time was getting old, plus our busy work/school schedules were getting in the way. We still keep our eyes open for a solid drummer who is down to jam and hopefully one day bring L.D.S. back to the SGV scene.
*Update* Feb. 2006
Well we pretty much had thrown in the towel on ever jamming as a band again cos we couldn't find a drummer and our school and careers still got in the way but 2 years after our last show enters O'bryan Ruiz. O'bryan plays drums for local metal band "A Bitter End" and was a big follower of the gospel that was Life's Daily Struggle. Knowing that he went to our shows and after asking him numerous times to jam with us he finally caved in and is now our newest member. We're hoping that this will give us the moral boost we need to go out and play shows again and we can all colaborate and write some new material for you guys. Stay tuned!
