About Me

There's something cool about everyone, especially you and me. I was built for Maximum Enjoyment Pleasure. Fun comes to me so naturally that I make other people's fun look like work. I'm funner than flubber. I enjoy film making, art production, music appreciation, thwarting moral conspiracies against humanity. I'm a cartoon in my own head. I was born with my own soundtrack. My third nipple isn't the only thing that sets me apart from 98% of the population.

My Interests

Truth and beauty. Love and Biscuits.

I'd like to meet:

Mutual Admiration Club Members.

This page is full of people YOU would love to meet. People who have done spectacular things:

A*NON, who turned a camera, respect for language, and an energetic angry intelligence into a book, a film, a series . . . not to mention the small gems: the blogs, the clips, etc.

Luminescent, who has taken Man-fuckin-Hattan by storm in the two years she's been there. She turned a sweet grad-school opportunity in Boston into a modern-day Greenwich Village fairy tale. Not only is she one of only ten speech pathologists working at her level in NYC, she has brought a burgeoning art career with her from Boston where she still shows regularly. She's not just a stilt artist, not just a photographer, not just a designer, She's Luminescent.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'd take a rocket in the face for Scott Rice. He didn't just dream of being a filmmaker when he was a kid. He waited for years until Dad finally gave him permission to use the VHS camera set-up at which point he made the first of FIFTY episodes of "The Adventures of Mad Matt" starring his little brother. Since then he's won over 100 awards at over 300 film festivals, and with any luck will be directing his first feature, My Monster, within the next year.

The Fromholz family, who has turned a love for music, wit, family, and friends into a dynasty that stretches across the United States and the world. They are woven into the Austin ethic. And I can say, quite literally, that Steven's voice is the voice of Texas. But they are so, so, so much more.

I want to meet more people like these.

Music:

Electronic to supersonic to bionic. I talked to Dizzy Gillespie about clam chowder. I found Bonnie Raitt's guitar in her fiance's bedroom. I've seen My Bloody Valentine, Alex Chilton, Dave Brubeck, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Henry Rollins, Billy Bragg, The Silos, Johnny Cash, U2, Dimitri From Paris, Belly, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Jane's Addiction, Pixies, Willie Nelson, David Bowie, Squarepusher, Chet Atkins, George Thorogood, Throwing Muses, Elvis Costello, Bexarametric, Boston, Van Halen, Earth Wind and Fire, Jonathan Richman, Lucinda Williams performing live. Countless others.

Movies:

I'm a movie junkie. I even like the movies I hate.

Television:

Simpsons. Family Guy. Chapelle's Show. The Office. Sopranos. But I only have basic cable.

Books:

I read. Magic Realists. Realists. Modernists. Authors with a sense of humor and the absurd.

Heroes:

I'm a walking, talking hero. I'm a sunshine gangster. What's your power?

Grating Expectations

The worst people expect the worst from people. I can't think of a word to add to that.

Secrets and Revenge

It is a difficult thing to know whether to reveal oneself or forget and forge on. I do believe in living a life with no secrets. However, there are some things about me that are impossible to understa...

Human Race

Nice guys finish last only in races that favor assholes. Have a Pleasant . . . umm . . . what should I call it: Gift Exchange and/or Massive Food Intake Period?  That's what it has become, rega...

Man of La Mancha

Windmills are giants and a flock can be an army if you make it so. A castle built of clouds can take root on a mountaintop. But in what castle would I reside? The quality of my dreams determines the q...

21 X 2

My birthday is coming up on Monday. I'm no Evil Knievel; my glimpses into the shattered void have been few and brief. Yet I know I'm very lucky to be still wandering around this strange and beautiful ...

If heaven doth weep, doth not the earth o'erflow

I just spent the last few days in New Orleans, a city defined, in part, by rot. Shamelessly it decays in plain sight. It's buildings shudder off layers of paint in digust to breathe in the moisture th...

Savior Self

An acquaintence of mine recently told me "I just wish someone would come in and save me." It left me speechless in the moment. And I shudder in retrospect. In truth, I would be a hypocrite if I preten...

Art Farts

Art is like a nuturing mother. The artist feeds at her fragrant breast and gets all nourishment that is necessary to feed the soul. When artists decide to live off their art, they have made the ...

Sisyphus and Gomorrhea

Myth, legend, doctrine, history: these lessons resonate in life. I feel like Sisyphus only I'm not in Hell (I'm in Austin, TX) and I actually chose to roll the rock up the mountain. And with the...
