Cheer up Sleepy Jean

I am here for Friends

About Me

I have lots of grand plans.

My Interests

Airdrums. Bikes. Etymology. Knee socks. Plants growing and plants dying. Rearranging my bedroom. Planning my travels.

I'd like to meet:

Northern soul

Music:

All the Wainwrights. Really good soundtracks. Beach Boys '20/20' is one of the most beautiful gifts that mankind has given womankind. Rachmaninoff. the Cult. have you ever heard the Muzak version of "gangster's paradise"? it's what sunshine glinting off blond arm hair sounds like. Cat Power... the Animals...Love. the Church, the Beachwood Sparks. the Idaho Falls. Elvis Costello....Calexico... Aw, crap, how could I forget the Stone Roses and Richard Ashcroft? I wanna make Gillian Welch-type music. When I lived in a place with my own door, I only locked it to protect my Kinks box set. I'm in love with the Vinyl Skyway. Jon Brion.

Movies:

Thank Allah for Netflix, because the arthouse theater across the street is being renovated.

Television:

"Spaced" is the best thing that used to be on TV.

Books:

another reason to live. another reason to not buy doorstops or tables. Primo Levi. Isaac Asimov. Mike Davis. Dostoevsky. Jonathan Safran Foer. Also, I like newspapers and alternative weeklies. But only some of them; I am discerning. And National Geographic.

Heroes:

People that know how to fix my bike. People that do stuff. My ma and Paul Stamets.

My Blog

Something has been bothering me since last night. The book I was in love with ended.   It was the beginning, and as we all know the Beginning is riddled with clues for how the middle, the...

Oh, crap, I forgot the jumbo-sized turkey fryer

I rode my bike to the local Wal-Mart shopping center today (for my sister's fish food! I swear!) and after a few minutes of confusion (can I hitch ol' Francois to the railing outside the KFC? W...

Who wants a psychoanalysis?!?

I love self-absorption! I figure out the rest of the world by focusing only on myself! To wit: I have an inferiority complex coupled with a superiority complex, which induces not only guilt (because ...
