About Me
Nacido en AlmerÃa, con diez años comienza su carrera musical estudiando solfeo y guitarra clásica en el Conservatori de Granollers con el profesor José Manuel MarÃn.
Es Licenciado (Grado superior de música) por el Conservatori Superior del Liceu de Barcelona en guitarra flamenca con el maestro Manuel Granados con excelentes calificaciones y actualmente cursa la carrera superior en pedagogÃa de la guitarra clásica con los maestros Guillem Pérez y Sergi Vicente.
Ha recibido clases magistrales de Gerardo Núñez y Rafael Riqueni.
En el campo pedagógico, desde el año 2000 imparte clases de guitarra flamenca y clásica en diferentes escuelas de Barcelona. Actualmente es profesor en la Escuela de Guitarra Flamenca del Conservatori del Liceu con su maestro Manuel Granados. Ha realizado clases magistrales, conferencias, seminarios de acompañamiento de cante y baile en escuelas y conservatorios de España.
En el campo de espectáculo musical ha compuesto obras de concierto para guitarra y orquesta, piezas para guitarra sola y estudios para guitarra. Ha acompañado a grandes figuras del cante y baile en peñas y tablaos de Cataluña. Ha actuado como guitarrista solista en festivales, salas y teatros de España y Europa, recibiendo muy buena crÃtica.
Compositor del espectáculo Rojo sobre Negro del grupo de baile Alharaca y perteneciente al grupo Ãndalo con los que actuó por diferentes puntos de España y Europa.
Ha formado “David Leiva Group†donde fusiona el flamenco más tradicional (cante, percusión, guitarra y baile flamenco) con música de Jazz (contrabajo, saxo, flauta travesera y violÃn) con el que ha realizado varias giras nacionales e internacionales y participaciones en radio y TV.
En 2007 han actuado en el Festival Mas i Mas de Barcelona, Festival de guitarra de Girona, Recontres Musicales de Médìterranée en Córcega y en el 2008 en el Festival de guitarra de Vilches, Festival de guitarra de Barcelona, Fiestas de Sant Sebastián de Mallorca..._________________________________________________
_______________David Leiva was born in Almeria in 1977.
When he was one year old he moved with his family to Granollers (Barcelona). At the age of eight he started his musical studies with solfege (singing scales) in the Granollers Conservatori, where he studied for five terms. When he reached the age of ten he started to study classical guitar with Professor Josep Henriquez and Jose Manuel Marin which he continued until he was eighteen, when he started to play electric guitar, playing jazz, rock and blues. When he was twenty he began studying flamenco guitar in the Liceu Conservatori Superior with Professor Manuel Granados. He completed his eight years of degree studies here, obtaining a degree with the classification of ‘sobresaliente’ (outstanding). His degree included qualifying in musical principles, flamenco musical theory, the history of flamenco, flamencology, instrumental group performance, and song and dance accompaniment. He is currently studying post-graduate studies in classical guitar in Liceu Conservatori Superior under the musical. He has trained as a teacher of Gerardo Nuñez, eduardo Baranzano and Rafael Riqueni.
His teaching experience includes giving classes in flamenco and classical guitar, which he has done since 1999. He is currently assistant to Manuel Grados in the Liceu Escuela Superior de Guitarra Flamenca. He gives seminars in the Alvaro Falomi Institute and the Ochando de Castellon School and seminars in song and dance accompaniment in Granollers in the En Dansa dance academy.
In the field of musicals, he has composed ‘Manuel’ (a taranta), ‘Emilia’ ( a granaina), ‘Orilla’ (a malagueña), ‘Llanto al alma’ (a rondeña), ‘AlmerÃa’ (a soleá), ‘Sueño de Alcazaba’ (a bulerÃas), ‘Encuentro’ (a tango), ‘Amistad’ (a rumba), ‘Yaiza’ (a guajira) and ‘El recuerdo’ ( a waltz ), amongst others.
He has performed as a guitar soloist and as a guitarist accompanying song and dance in concert halls, theatres, festivals and clubs in Spain. He composed the dance group Alharaca’s musical show ‘Rojo sobre Negro’ (Red on Black) which had its debut in the Les Franqueses del Vallès Theatre. He is a member of the group Indalo, which he founded with his friend Juan Asensio, with whom he has played throughout Spain and France. He formed the David Leiva Quintet which mixes the purest flamenco (song, percussion, guitar, dance) with jazz (double base, base, saxophone, concert flute and violin).
