Don't Fall Asleep: A Minneapolis DIY Compilation for Daybreak Newspaper $10
21 original songs by 21 local bands including the Knotwells, Chokecherry, Your Loving Tiger, Bla Bla Black Sheep, and Best Friends Forever among others.
Chokecherry- Pigs Eye and the Many-Headed Hydra EP $5
Recorded in late 2005, this Cd contains 6 songs of insurrectionist old timey and a hand screen-printed insert.
Profane Existence had this to say:
"Chokecherry are a folksy, twangy, country-esque, acoustic political band with a damn good sense of humor. The use of fiddle and banjo gives CHOKECHERRY a particular dynamic that makes this CD quite good. Much of the lyrics are dual male and female vocals sung in harmony. The songs are fairly simple and straightforward, in a down-home-folksy sort of way, with lyrics that you can't help but sing along to, as they wail away "You and I will never be freeeeeee! 'til every boss is dead and buried!" and "When the world ends, I hope that he comes back and puts a gun to every fucking cop's head"... How could I not fall in love with this CD? Anyone who loves funny-yet profound political lyrics, twangy guitars and banjos, sultry singing fiddles, and anything remotely folk-country-punk, check this out!"
Dark Dark Dark- Special Spontaneous Fest CD $6
Dark Dark Dark is an amazing Minneapolitan-stew of accordion and banjo and whoever else is around. This CD has eight great songs about winter and dead fish.
The Knotwells- Blood River Melodies CD $10
The Knotwells are the progenitors of Minneapolis Pine-Core. A blend of gypsy and old-time-americana, this album contains 13 songs (can they be called classic already?) of inspiring and original music, with undershades of subversiveness, that countless Minneapolitans have sung-along-with and hopped-around-to since 2002.
