The Mighty 18 Wheeler! The Mighty 18 Wheeler was spawned out of the mid 90’s L.A. based swing band, Jumpin’ Jimes. During their live shows every Sunday night at the World Famous Derby, they would let the horn section relax and perform a blistering set of Old School Rockabilly. They called the band the 3 Deuces. After swing had come and gone , Bobby Smith continued on with the 3 Deuces, aptly renaming the band after his father’s profession...18 Wheeler!
In 2000, 18 Wheeler’s first CD, "18 Wheeler", was recorded with the help from Philippe Aubuchon (Russell Scott and His Red Hots), Gator McKinley (Mike Ness Band), and Chris Lawrence (Social Distortion).
In 2001 Bobby relocated to Denver, Colorado and enlisted a couple of the city’s most talented musicians...Jimmy Kolodziej (Hillbilly Hellcats and Johnny and the Blades) and Will Sahs (Marty Jones and the Pork Boilin’ Poor Boys). They wasted no time in recording their second CD on St. Patrick’s Day, 2004, at the Soiled Dove in front of a full. Denver was instantly ablaze in the scorching flames of the Mighty 18 Wheeler! The fans needed more, so a limited run Live CD was cut to satisfy their passions. ’Live and 4 Shots In" sold out quickly, and gave fans the fuel they needed to keep their mighty 18wheeler addiction rolling until the 3rd full length CD was released.
In October of 2005 the band headed to The Blasting Room in Ft. Collins, Colorado to record their 3rd, much anticipated, full length CD. The Blasting Room, which is owned and operated by Bill Stevenson (drummer from the Descendents and Black Flag), allowed the band to bring their rockabilly metal edge to the forefront and record a harder sound for the new CD titled "Charmed Life". The CD was released January 2006 to a sold out crowd at Denver’s famous landmark, the Skylark Lounge.
With their ever-evolving sound, they drive their thrashing rig’ of rock and roll fast and hard. Fans had better hang on tight when they climb aboard the Mighty 18wheeler for a musical journey to the furious frontiers of Rockabilly, Punk, and Rock and Roll!- a place home to the Mighty 18Wheeler! Bobby Smith (Guitars) and longtime sidekick Jimmy Kolodziej (upright bass) have carved out a metal-billy approach which waivers somewhere between Eddie Cochran and Motorhead. The latest addition to the band is drummer Matt Wiggins , a veteran of the Denver Music Scene and final piece of the band.
