About Me

GEORGE METROPOULOS AND THE METROPOULOS AMPLIFICATION STORY:
After spending several years touring full-time, I decided to take a break from the road and concentrate on my restoration and custom gear business. From playing guitar for Kid Rock in the mid 90's, to touring with an 11-piece funk band, I'd done the road scene and learned what works when it comes to reliability and performance. I also spent some time teching for Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise when they were opening for Dave Matthews Band and I swear, there wasn't a single piece of gear less than 25 years old!!! Playing 200+ shows a year (often two or more in the same day) with vintage gear is no small feat. But, with attention to detail and some knowledge of what works, it can be done. I happily apply this knowledge and attention to your vintage or modern gear so you can have the piece of mind of knowing that you can rely on your "old faithful".
I've spent countless hours in the studio where tone really gets scrutinized. There is a reason the classic, staple amps from Marshall's plexi era are kept on hand almost universally. They are the sound of a large majority of classic albums in the history of rock & roll. From a stint on Atlantic Records to working with legendary producer Nile Rodgers, I've had the good fortune to see how the big boys make records and what's expected from various pieces of gear. I founded Metropoulos Amplification with the mission to apply all the knowledge I've accumulated, then developed Metroamp.com as my vehicle. In the process, we've developed a reputation for building some of the finest point-to-point hand-wired Marshall plexi replicas in the world. Cloning even the smallest of details, these amps do what was once thought impossible: Resurrect some of the most sought-after, hard-to-find amps in the world at a fraction of the price.
It's a bold statement, but we say it and we mean it: These amps are the real deal.
We also did the unthinkable for a company who'd invested so much time figuring out how to accomplish all this: We offered complete amp kits, with the best instructions in the business. Not schematics that you need a degree to understand, real step-by-step illustrated instructions that allow you the opportunity to build these classic amps yourself. All parts and case included. The idea of getting what amounts to a course in vintage Marshall amp building in the process has made these kits one of our best selling items. It has spawned a thriving online community in our forums, where fellow amp-builders are learning together, helping each other like family, and making me proud.
I look forward to developing more kits steeped in classic amp goodness.
