Emergency Exit is a band that has roots older than any of the band members can actually place a date on. The idea was formed nearly ten years ago by three kids who loved music and wanted to have fun. While one of the original “members†never made it into the lineup, co-founders Brendan Farragher and Zack Kennedy were on their way to becoming musicians. The actual music did not begin until the summer of 2002, when Farragher (lead singer and guitarist) began playing with former First Five Lives drummer Ben Johnson (drums and vocals) and did a short stint with Johnson in FFL before its implosion. Far before First Five Lives died, Kennedy (bass and vocals) joined the mix with Johnson and Farragher to make the first and final incarnation of Emergency Exit. Starting off as a cover band trying to learn how to play they’re instruments, original songs like “The Carnie Girl†and “Naked Hitchhiker†soon showed the sense of humor derived from pop-punk veterans blink182. However, Emergency Exit soon began writing serious material, forgoing ideas like “Virginized Molester†for the likes of “Too Good for Me†and “I Feel Sorry Forâ€. Since then, Emergency Exit has been dedicated to writing serious (and occasionally a joke track) songs about life, fun, and growing up.
With major influences like Blink182, Greenday, NoFX, Pennywise, the Rx Bandits, the Bouncing Souls, and much more, Emergency Exit has succeed in blending a variety of sounds, creating a catchy punk, ska, and alternative feel to their songs. By 2005, Emergency Exit had become an experienced and hard-working entity. They had written almost two albums worth of material, played over thirty shows in the Boston area (including at the Middle East Upstairs, Downstairs, Club Axis, and the Paradise), home recorded songs, made t-shirts and demos for fans; Emergency Exit had seen and done many things that they never expected. However, as 2007 rolled around, things were kicked up a notch. With a full length LP “It Was Consensualâ€, recorded at home over the summer of 2006, Emergency Exit has started playing more shows, and has started playing shows all around New England. With high hopes for good things in the future, Emergency Exit continues to have fun, write music, play shows, and share their lives with listeners and fans.
