Minnesota native John Snell (the Tenth) started writing music when he was just fifteen, but his musical admiration was apparent at an even earlier age. Johns mother can attest to him dancing to the hum of the vacuum cleaner while he was still in cloth diapers. Since these early days, JS10 has written over 200 songs, grown out of diapers, and released 5 full-length albums (Including In The Key Of Vacuum, The Alien Highway, Audibly Oriented, and recently The Clock Stops Here). Vocal training was started on John in his third grade of school; his writing wavering melodic harmonies is a result of singing nine years with organized choirs. And yes, he is actually John Snell the Tenth...his fathers John Snell the Ninth and everything.
Currently John is finally in the manufuacturing stage of his 7th album. The upcoming album is being recorded on a 24 track 2 inch tape machine by Tom Herbers at Third Ear Recording Studio in Minneapolis (Samples can be heard at www.myspace.com/minneapolismusic). The new album is diversely arranged with orchestration including string players from the Minnesota Chamber Orchestra (backing a live studio performance of "A Message with Perspective" by John Snell, Jeremy Ylvisaker and Peter Anderson). Three songs on the new album have live HORNS(!).
John is also getting singers in Minneapolis together to sing on his new song on Global Warming. The finale of the song has a flood of guest singers including The Original Mark Edwards, Mark Mallman, Chris Perricelli (of Little Man), Ryan Smith and Kat Smith (of The Melismatics), Maria May and Allison (of The Owls), Josh and Jenny Richardson (of The Flavor Crystals & Luke's Angles), and Matt and Nate Stevens (of Mad Love, Wookie Foot, The New Primatives & the Beads). The song will be on John's new studio album due out early 2008.
Other than recording, the past year has been spent working on promoting his latest studio album The Clock Stops Here. He also recently finished a double album titled "Peculiar Songs for a Particular Audience--The complete home recordings of John Snell the Tenth". Both of these albums (and others) are available at http://www.JohnSnellX.com. John's goal for the future is to release albums fast enough to keep up with his song writing and artwork compositions.
