Movies:

Almost anything by Akira Kurosawa, Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater, Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, Alfred Hitchcock, or Hayao Miyazaki. Pretty much anything with elaborate historical costumes, superheroes, spaceships, swords, improbable martial arts, and/or pretentious philosophical dilemmas. Or all of the above. That would be fantastic.

Television:

The Simpsons, Deadwood, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek Voyager, Carnivale, and a lot of PBS. I finally saw Heroes and I liked that, too.

Books:

Comics: I'm behind on my comic reading, however some favorites are How Loathsome, Persepolis, Lucifer, Courtney Crumrin, Y the Last Man, Fables, Hopeless Savages, Blue Monday, Sandman (of course), Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Kabuki, Optic Nerve, old romance comics, and others.

As for the sorts of books without illustrations, Neil Gaiman, Michael Chabon, Gregory Maguire, Douglas Adams, and Terry Pratchett write some of my favorites. I'm also a big geek for the Harry Potter books.

Heroes:

Simone de Beauvoir, Dorothy Parker, Audre Lorde, Greta Garbo, Kathleen Hanna.

And most importantly,
my dad.
