History:
Dingleberry's was opened in 1974 by Greg Savage, who ran it along with his wife Bev Savage until Dec 8, 2005, when he passed away. His wife and children are keeping the legacy alive today.
Greg got his start by booking bands when he was in high school and put on many concerts under the name Savage Productions. While working at a now defunct record store in high school, he thought he could build a better record store if only he could open his own shop. And he did-- in its heyday, Dingleberry's was the largest music store in the state of Ohio. It was the first retail store of any kind to play videos (as documented by Billboard magazine in 1978). In the days before MTV, Dingleberry's aired music videos made on Betamax tape and projected upon the huge (even by today's standards) screen mounted on the wall. The store was again credited in Billboard magazine in 1979 for putting on the Dinglejam, which was an in-store concert in which all the musicians and technical crew were employees of the store. Over the years, Greg and the store won numerous advertising awards and Best of Dayton reader polls.
The stores were visited by many many bands and artists, sometimes for autograph signings and sometimes just to shop. Michael Jackson, Ted Nugent, Todd Rundgren, Charlie Daniels, Journey, Dokken, Queensryche, Poison, Pantera, the Cranberries, L7, the Melvins, Adema, Deadsy and Mindless Self Indulgence are only a few. Much of our store memorabilia was framed and on display up on the walls.
The original Centerville/Dayton location officially closed in February 2006. The Yellow Springs location was open from 1997 to December 2008.
