I, Matt Jones, had formal piano lessons from the age of 13, until the age of 16; but was taught the piano by my grandmother from the age of 10. I studied music at high school and began composing on Steinberg's 'Cubase', at school, until 2006. This was when high school ended and Cubase was too expensive to buy for use at home. I then started writing Alternative Rap beats on Fruity Loops, under the pseudonym 'Je Hones'.
After a year I progressed to Propellerhead's 'Reason' with a midi keyboard, which is the program I use most for writing music today. After recording one or two more rap beats in Reason, I was inspired to cover Johnny Cash's version of 'Hurt', and so began the deviation from rap beats.
Months after the reinvented track, I started a MySpace page under the pseudonym 'Jecht Rye', which was intended for music I write that isn't rap based. The alias has no real significance other than the continuation of 'Je' in my other alias, the fact that 'Jecht' is a cool sounding word, and 'Rye' kind of reflects one of my favourite books. Guess which. And thus, Jecht Rye was born.
Listeners can expect any genre of music on here. Myself and the musicians I work with have broad listening tastes and find it constraining to stick to one genre, when expressing ourselves musically.
Jecht Rye was initially just me, but towards the beginning of 2008, it became apparent that Jecht Rye is me, and a blanket term for anybody that works with me on this project. I am at the project's core and musicians like Chris Calvert, who was the first to collaborate, act as ghost members.
Performed Spoken Word will one day play a part in the music of Jecht Rye, as I have been an avid writer of all mediums since a young age. I also study English Literature and Creative Writing at university.
The Industrial era of Jecht Rye's music is a reflection of experimentation, and the challenge of conventional music. This concept is mirrored in the coming 'Godface EP', which will be free to download. There are many other projects in hand as well.
Enjoy the music.

Disclaimer I hate thinking that some people are listening to the track 'Hurt' and noticing how it goes out of time at the end, how the piano is too loud and how there is distortion. I am aware of all of the flaws and the reason it isn't polished is because I lost all the original files for that song. The copy I have is in mp3 format, so all the individual layers I need as layers to edit, have been merged. Nonetheless, I like the song and I've been informed many other people do, so that's why I left it up. I may record a reinvention of my version in the future, because I've developed more as a musician, and producer, since it was first recorded.
