About Me

The George W. Bush Years—A Cartoon History.

The hundreds of political cartoons collected in the hilarious and sobering new book Misunderestimated & Overunderappreciated do more than just poke fun at George W. Bush's tenure as Decider-in-Chief. These cartoons distill Bush's presidency into laser-sharp vignettes that speak volumes more than mere words ever could.
Placing the cartoons—drawn by sixteen of the Tribune Media Service's cartoonists, nearly half of them Pulitzer Prize–winners—in context are cogent introductions by acclaimed media critic Mark Crispin Miller. Also included are a foreword by Garrison Keillor (providing a wry take on this unprecedented presidency), yearly timelines, contemporary news stories, and quotes from Bush himself (and many others) that really "resignate."
We have been posting selected text and cartoons (including some not included in the published book) in this page's blog - one year at a time. Keep checking back for a new chapter and a new year's worth of Bush cartoons, not to mention bonus Bushisms.
Misunderestimated & Overunderappreciated is in stores now! Only $9.98 at Barnes & Noble stores nationwide.

My Interests

"It's hard to say which I did more while reading this book, laugh or wince, but I did plenty of both. If the mainstream media had been as willing to turn a steely eye on the doings of the George W. Bush administration as these cartoonists, we might have been spared some of the tragic consequences of his presidency."
- Arianna Huffington
"Only Halliburton and Exxon have prospered more than political cartoonists during the reign of Bush II. Not since the Nixon years has the editorial art pen had such a rich trove of sleaze, deceit and incompetence to mine for laughs — and, at this point, laughter is essential to the national sanity."
Miami Herald columnist and bestselling author Carl Hiaasen
