A.I.M.= Leahapop
Former Member of Burufunk
Many of you know me as the former member of Burufunk. From 2001-2005 Curtis and myself were an acclaimed progressive breaks duo from Texas. We currently are no longer writing music together and have went our separate ways. Thank you for respecting this decision and we hope you will follow us on our separate paths. Listed below is a discography of our work together. If you have any questions or need anything-- Feel free to message.

EDUCATION
I graduated from Texas Woman's University in Denton, TX in 2001. I graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Music and then finished my Music degree for all levels in 2003. I also attended University of North Texas for my Kodaly Certification during the summers.
TEACHING MUSIC
Teaching is my life. Currently I teach Kinder-5th grade general music. I'd like to believe I'm one of the best at what I do. Giving every ounce of myself each day is the least I can give these kids. They are the most amazing and life changing humans I will ever know. I think I learn more than they do! I have a choir of 115 kids--largest in the district. I also teach recorders in 4th, piano in 5th, and do 3 musicals a year. My hope is to start a drum core in the future. I was nominated Teacher of the Year in 2007.
PHILOSOPHY
I base my the philosophy of Zoltan Kod?ly. This is a detailed sequence of musical concepts that are ordered to help develop a child's ability to read, write, and compose through folk music. By the time my students leave my classroom they will have a broadened view on music, history, styles, and most importantly be able to play an instrument and read a middle school level repertoire. EASY PEASY! :)
Kodaly believed that music is meant to develop one's entire being-personality, intellect and emotions. He said, "music is a spiritual food for everybody. So I studied how to make more people accessible to good music." (Kodaly, 1966) Kodaly realized this was part of everyone's basic heritage and was necessary for human development and should be started at as early an age as possible.
Kodaly says it best,"Each music and singing at school in such a way that it is not a torture, but a joy for the pupil;instill a thirst for finer music in him, a thirst which will last for a lifetime If the child is not filled at least once by the life giving stream of music during the most susceptible period-between his sixth and sixteenth years-it will hardly be of any use to him later on. Often a single experience will open the young soul to music for a whole lifetime. This experience cannot be left to chance, it is the duty of the school to provide it."
FAMILY
I recently was married in NYC to my lovely hubby, Jeffrey. He's a native of Louisiana. Born and raised Cajun! Therefore, I was given one of the hardest pronounced and spelled last names- Bourgeois! We are raising our daughter, Maddy, who is in middle school right now. Between cello and cheerleading- we stay plenty busy.
I have a wonderful circle of family and I couldn't ask for anything more. God has taught me a lot over the past several years. I'm getting a lot better at making choices and a lot better with who I should let into my world. Life is a precious and short ride that I intend to live to the fullest. I tell every single person that I care about that I love them-- EVERY time I see them. It's one of my trademarks.
POPography
My new hobby is photography as many of you can already tell. I've been looking for a creative outlet since leaving my production front as Buru. Everyone knows I'm the avid picture taker girl. Now I have a brilliant Nikon that allows me to photog every inch of my life. I'm hoping to get some more serious gigs after proving I can work the camera and photoshop. Enjoy the trials and errors of my photography for now. The site will be up soon.
If you're local and want to do some free promo type shots--let me know. They only way to learn is to practice on beautiful people. :)
