ReRelease.net is a new online music label, the only one that uses a revenue-sharing model to give old recordings new life. We embrace the future by investing in the past, and are:
- Pro-artist: Artists retain all rights to their music and receive majority of profits.
Diverse: We pursue a range of styles, from jazz-funk to post-punk, with an emphasis on local artists.
Online: Our releases are available worldwide through iTunes and other retailers.
ReRelease presents fans with a convenient, economical alternative to the music industry's plan. We put unique music in your ears and money in the artists' pockets using the reputable Tunecore engine. Old vinyl skips the CD age entirely and is re-released directly to the people through the Internet. The time is right for this, for CD sales are down as digital music continues to rise, while crucial music continues to be forgotten. A selection of artists we work with are listed below.
Elysian Spring: Ultra-rare central MA modal jazz full-length from 1969 that merges New Age with mellow jazz. Their sole album is a cerebral and unique entry in jazz history, and unless you want to buy a copy off Ebay for more than your monthly rent, is only available here.
Arni Cheatham: Dark, furious Miles Davis-esque jazz-funk from the enthusiasm-filled year of 1972, when the walls of jazz were crumbling and everybody was grabbing a piece. This is hotly tipped music for hip-hop and early jazz-fusion fans alike.
Mark Harvey: The first two albums by the most long-lived free jazz improv group in Boston, by a leader who is a MIT professor and Methodist minister, no less! File under airy, ambitious improvisatory music.
Thesda: Probably the only funky modern soul album you'll find that was created by a postmaster general as a Christmas gift to his friends (how's that for obscure?). This rare slice of wax is in-demand and garners over $500 when it comes up for sale, but you can snag it in its entirety here on the cheap. Check out the cut "Bongo Lumbo" exclusively here on MySpace.
The Dance: Get your Dance on with the post-punk NYC group featured on the "New York Noise" compilation on Soul Jazz records. Only on www.rerelease.net can you get their full-length, now with bonus cuts.
