Love/Hate, possibly the most underrated band in the world.
20 years later L/H music is fresh and in your face. The message
is pure and for the ages. L/H believed in the party and reached
for the hammer of the gods. Party music like gospel music focuses
on the soul of the human condition and on the Sunset Strip in the
late '80s, the rock gods anointed a golden era and L/H understood
the magic.Love/Hate was formed by Jizzy Pearl vocal, skid bass/songwriter,
Jon E Love guitar, Joe Gold drums in 1984. The band moved in a warehouse
in downtown LA in Skid Row, and all the band members lived together in
"Soul House" for six years. Before getting signed L/H rehearsed, recorded and promoted day & night everyday for many years. This strict regimen and strong work ethic helped L/H move up the ranks of thousands of local bands.In 1988 L/H could sell out the Whisky, Roxy, Troubadour, and many more clubs in Hollywood. While unsigned, L/H opened for GNR, Jane's Addiction, LA GUNS, Faster Pussycat, and other bands that made a big noise.Love/Hate got signed to Sony/Columbia records in 1989. In 1990 L/H released the critically acclaimed "Blackout In The Redroom." The Song "Why Do You Think They Call It Dope" was in full rotation at MTV for 10 weeks. L/H toured non-stop in support of the record. Touring highlights included a 2 month support slot for DIO and a sold out club run in the UK.
In the summer of 1989 L/H got the ultimate support slot opening for AC/DC on a 2 band bill, 10 weeks of sold out arenas across America laid the foundation of L/H's fan base.In 1992 L/H released the critically acclaimed "Wasted In America." Wasted was a hit at metal radio and L/H toured relentlessly. Touring highlights included 2 months on a 2 band bill supporting OZZY in Europe, 2 weeks supporting Skid Row in sold-out arenas in the UK. By 1992, Seattle grunge had taken over, and L/H was dropped by Columbia.After their two major releases Love/Hate was burnt out and jaded. Jon E Love needed a break, Darren Householder was recruited to play guitar. Skid sold his fancy Corvette to finance the self-produced "Let's Rumble." With no record deal, the song "Spinning Wheel" became the most requested song
at LA metal radio station KNAC. This airplay and sold-out club dates helped L/H keep the band going.In 1994, L/H got a deal with RCA Europe and Caliber in the US and released "Let's Rumble" with little buzz or fanfare. The band toured, the songs were good, but the magic was gone.In 1995, L/H signed with Mayhem. Love/Hate recorded and released the self produced "I'm Not Happy" that was received enthusiastically by fans, but totally unnoticed by the public.In 1996, Love/Hate disbanded. Bitterness, broken friendships, broken trust, just plain broke.Time marched on and the members of Love/Hate grew up. Marriages, mortgages, children, new careers and always a respect for L/H in its prime.In 2007, Love/Hate got together for a reunion and the magic was back. Love/Hate plans on making a new record and playing shows whenever they can.
