I am a flute player that began on silver flute when I was very young and became enthralled with the wood flute. At 14, when I heard my first tinwhistle, I was mesmerized... Unlikely candidate to be playing traditional Irish, since I was born in Nebraska to two Jewish parents who had fled the East Coast and traded in kippas for shitkickers.
My parents soon divorced and I lived in Nebraska only until about the age of 4, then moved to Moline, IL and then to Platteville, WI. All this time I had been playing silver flute, but had been turned on to other sorts of music, thanks to the open mind of my mother and her friends ( two of them had marched in the civil rights movement in Alabama during the Rosa Parks riot).
When I got to Milwaukee on a bassoon performance scholarship, I had already tried to play Irish music, but lacked the resources where I was to really find the nyah... I would then meet John Ceszynski (a rather Polish-sounding name) and all would change. I dropped out of school and dedicated my time to learning Irish music. I competed in the Fleadh in Listowel, Co. Kerry in 1995, then went back two more times. I did some tours with the Trinity Dancers Junior Company in Chicago, collaborated on theater music with Macdara Vallely, now of NY, as well as teaching and playing a ton of gigs.
I have now settled into what I want to do, and that is make the statement that I want to make with the music I want to play. Randy Gosa (guitar) and I believe that two instruments are sufficient to do that, and thus a duo is born.
We will be working on an album this summer. Please have a listen to the tracks on this site, but know that they are rough cuts that may or may not make it on the album. Thanks and happy listening.
