Hi, I'm Lacey - better known as "the villain" of Vh1's "Rock of Love"! I am also the singer for the band Nocturne and guest singer for the band Pigface. I am a musician, TV personality, and animal rights activist.
In 2007, shortly after the taping of Vh1's "Rock of Love", Lacey Conner created "NEW DAWN PET RESCUE". As of May 10, 2008, through Lacey's persistent hard work and passion for animals...
30 DOGS HAVE BEEN RESCUED
from Los Angeles' overcrowded city pounds
10 CATS HAVE BEEN RESCUED
from Los Angeles' overcrowded city pounds
(and 1 baby humming bird!)
MOST OF THESE POOR ANIMALS WERE SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED.
Lacey typically rescues sick dogs, injured dogs, senior dogs, or less "popular" breeds, such as Pit bulls and Rottweilers. But now all of these animals are safe and loved, and will never be abused, neglected, or in danger, ever again.
Many more animals still need to be saved, so the work will continue!

About NEW DAWN PET RESCUE:
I, Lacey Conner, am the founder of "NEW DAWN PET RESCUE", in which I rescue dogs from the animal "shelters" in the city of Los Angeles, California. The L.A. Animal Shelters are extremely over-crowded, and are known for euthanizing a large number of pets that have yet to find loving homes. In Los Angeles alone, 50,000 pets were euthanized last year, simply because there are too many pets, and not enough homes for them. The reason there is such a severe pet over-population problem is because (a) not enough people spay and neutered their pets, and (b) people still buy dogs and cats from pet stores, who (99% of the time) obtain their for-sale animals from " PUPPY MILLS ". (Puppy mills are notorious for keeping animals in over-crowded and cramped spaces, and in deplorable and unsanitary conditions. They over-breed the animals, and always put profit before the welfare of the animals.) So, because too many people won't spay/neuter their pets, and because too many people still buy from pet stores (ultimately keeping puppy mills in business), are the two main reasons why there are too many pets, and not enough homes for all of them. This is why so many animals end up at the animal "shelter", ultimately to get euthanized. The animal shelters are not nice places for the animals. There are no soft beds - the dogs live and sleep on concrete. Many of them are sick and don't feel good, and they are often frightened as well. They are subjected to loud reverberated barking all day long. No one is there to speak kindly to them or give them a treat or a rub on the belly. It is a miserable place.
So what I do is I find the dogs in the shelters that have been "red listed", which means they are scheduled to be euthanized very soon - or I find the ones that are sick or injured, because most people don't want a sick or injured dog. I adopt those dogs from the shelter and take them home with me. Once they are in my home, I give them a soft dog bed to sleep on, and they get to play with my other dogs, go on walks, and run around chasing balls and toys in my large back yard. They go from this miserable, pitiful thing, and blossom into a confident, affectionate, and happy animal. I keep the dogs for a few weeks while they get well if they are sick, or recovering from injuries, and I help them overcome any fears they may have, and basically break them out of their shells and help them to become "happy" again. Once that has happened, then I will look to find a new, loving home for them. Potential new owners for my rescued dogs are screened and questioned, and if the potential new owner is "approved", and adopts a dog or cat from me, then I go back to the animal shelter and start the whole process all over again.

ABOUT ANIMAL RIGHTS:
I believe that animals have certain rights: the right to exist peacefully, as nature would have intended; the right to physical and mental wellbeing; and the right to exist without being harmed or exploited by humans.
I believe that certain aspects of human existence precludes animals from having these basic rights: the meat industry, the fur and leather industry, the cosmetic and medical industry, and specific "entertainment" industries, such as circuses and rodeos. I will discuss this in more detail in my blog. Please read and post your views there. Feel free to voice any opposing views as well.
