Le infermiere finsero di prelevargli il sangue,e il laboratorio mandò i risultati degli esami dell'aria.Tutti si ricordarono,con piacere,del proprio tirocinio medico,quando facevano pratica solo su bambole e cadaveri e non c'era granchè in ballo.L'orsacchiotto venne trasportato su barelle e allacciato a vari tubicini e macchine.Almeno una volta al giorno,rilevando l'assenza di respiro e battito,lo sottoposero a defibrillazione e a elettroshock.Le scariche erano elettrizzanti,ma l'orsacchiotto cercò di non emettere alcun suono.Proprio quando i dottori e le infermiere parevano aver perso ogni speranza,quando stavano per pronunciare l'ora del decesso,Winkie iniziò a canticchiare piano:-Bip...bip...bip...La sua imitazione del rilevatore di battito cardiaco era abbastanza penosa,ma il punto non era quello.A uno a uno il personale medico alzò la testa con gioia.Quella era la parte del gioco che Winkie amava di più.-Ce l'ha fatta un'altra volta dottore!-potè dire una graziosa infermiera.-Salvare vite è il mio lavoro,-rispose un aitante medico..."
